John Deere 70 Series Row Crop Tractor with Adjustable Wide Front Axle are run of the Mill and not uncommon but also made on the 70 series Tractor Line was the 70 Standard with lower and wider Rear Tires with wide Fenders, adjustable Wide Front Axle, over size Front Tires from standard, this Tractor was commonly called the Wheatland Version.Such a tractor is featured in the Jan/Feb 2007 Issue of Antique Power Magazine. The tractor belongs to Albert Jensen of Colwich Kansas and is a 1956 John deere 70 Diesel Standard and it is a very nice looking John Deere.

The Adjustable Wide Front Axle was not an option on the 70 Series "Standard" JD Tractor. It was the only way it came from the Factory, and yes the Adjustable Wide Front Axle was an option on the 70 series "Row Crop" version. The Row Crop version was a much lighter Axle than the one used on the "Standard". Swartz and others furnished an After Market Wide Front Axle for these Row Crop Tractors which were adaptable to many other Tractor Brands.

jc i dont understand your comments i have a standard 70 with the adjustable standard wide front axle i believe it was an option also has rhe pinion adjust rear wheels and the wheatland fenders

At the front of the John Deere Model 70 Tractor Parts Book is a picture of a Model 70 Standard and it says in parenthesis "Available with rigid front axle or adjustable front axle". I have seen both.

just to add something else uncommon there was a 70 standard diesel bought new by a neighbor that has the adjustable frontend and a rockshaft.

Sure is. My 70 Diesel Standard has an adjustable front axle. Also has power steering, live hydraulics and pto, and a rockshaft. It came fully loaded. Here is a picture of the front axle.

Never seen a 40,50,60,70 or 80 series two cylinder Deere. I have seen the early numbered series however. Along with the 20 & 30 series.

The 40,50,60,70 & 80 are called the "First Numbered Series". The were the first JD"s that were not identified by letters.
The next two generations of two cylinders were called the 20 & 30 series.
The term "70 series" is not correct as there was only the 70.
