Heading Home Today

88 years of haying, dust, and hoghouses have taken their toll on my grandfather. He was in and out of the hospital last week and is going back today, so I'm leaving now to go to the farm.

He was diagnosed with COPD a few years ago, makes it hard to breathe. Hoping this isn't the end for him. So very hard seeing him like this, the strongest, hardest working man I've ever known.

We've always been close, but once I found this forum and rekindled my love for tractors and bought one for myself, we've become even closer, spending a lot of time on the phone getting advice. I made extra trips out their to get parts from his old tractors, he came out here to help be split the H and pull the engine. And just hauled my completed H project out last fall for him to see. Boy was he proud, as I didn't really know what I was doing most of the time, relying you guys here for help and advice.

Working on his C still now. Would really like to get that done for him to see. Was hoping to start on the old F-20 next, but that may now be something an uncle and I do. It was grandad's first tractor.

This will be the hardest drive I've ever made home. Tears already coming.

Appreciate all the help many of you have given me over the past few years. Prayers appreciated.

Prayers are with you my friend. Just keep asking the big guy for help. He's smoothed the road your on now for me many times. Keep in touch with GrandPa whenever you can, it's the best thing for him to be in the loop and you'll cherish this time forever.

I will say a prayer for Him and Your Family! Hope things work out OK. I know what you are going thru, lost my father-in-law a year ago. My parents passed away when I was little, was raised by grandparents (but they all passed on years ago). My father-in-law kind of filled a void, was always there for a project (remodeling the house, building barn, shop, or just doing fencing). Sure seems strange that he is not here to help any more. You take care and drive safe.

I know how you feel. My Dad and I were not close growing up. It was not until his last few years that we "mended fences". Every once in a while I'll think "Dad would like to see/hear this", but he's been gone 4 1/2 yrs now...
