if you want to have some fun with the punks in your area, take a old dead battery, clean it up nice armor all it clean post ect, set it out in plain view by the road and see how long it takes some kid to swipe it, i got rid of 4 that way, also works for used tires with good tread but a hole in the sidewall

What do you mean got "rid" of 4 that way? They'll bring $9-$15 each at the junkyard. Perhaps you should leave a $20 bill taped to the mailbox next time. That would really show 'em.

we dont have any 'official disposal' site in the county for this kind of stuff here, the auto parts store will take them if you pay 10 bucks disposal fee, its easier to just let kids learn a important lesson, that everything that shines aint good, tires are another thing the landfill wont take them, and the tire store charges to dispose of them, but they wont take semi tires at all so i got 10 or 12 around here to figure out what im supposed to do with,

Where do you get $9 to $15 for old batteries? The highest I've ever heard of is about $5 for a big Cat battery. Pay me $6 to $10 a battery and I'll send you a ton of them. You should make a good profit. Leaving anything out for someone to take doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If it's junk, the thieves may look for revenge or it could give them an open invitation to scope out the place for more stuff that isn't junk. I think the guy that caught the thieves in the act did the right thing. Dave

Yeah I been thinkin of things like that to do. Thanks for the suggestions. And to Mr.Huh, where the heck are you gettin that much for old batteries? The most I ever got was $6 each and that was when scrap was up. I thought it was still low now? Always one pecker head to pose as an a$$hat with jerk comments!

the napa by my shop takes old batteries for free. its not worth the hassle for me to store batteries at the shop and haul them to the scrapper. also we have a scrap metal bin outside the shop that any metal from the body shop goes in to. the scavengers pick it up about every other day. they can haul it and have the money for it. one less headache for me, and its just plain not worth my time and fuel to drive to the recycler (about 45 miles one way) to sell it.

I got $9 each for 10 tractor batteries last week in DE. This is down significantly from the $15 I got a year ago.

get you a gas can and fill it full of diesel and leave it in plain view. works like a charm everytime. brings a smile to my face everytime i see a broke down car around here

Walmart charges you 9 bucks if you don't have a trade in battery, even on a new one.

Anything I want to get rid of without having to haul it away myself, I put out by the road with a FREE sign on it. No kidding 99% of the stuff just goes away once in awhile they even take the FREE sign. (I just order another sheet pizza). Last thing to leave here was the fiberglass 1/2 top off an old Bronco I scrapped out. Would have cost me 20 bucks at the landfill plus at least 10 bucks worth of gas to haul it. Heck I didn't even need to help load it.

What, do you think those thieves take your old batteries and tires to the local recycling center? They end up in a road ditch somewhere. Something to consider the next time somebody dumps trash in front of your house.

back when I first got married (first wife) we went to visit her mom in prospect park NYC. NICE FREAKING BROWNSTONE, so I took my shoes off before i went in and left 'em on the stoop. I was a subsurb boy, thought it was right.
2 minutes later, had to get something from the car...shoes were LONG GONE.
Man it is a cultural thing, and the culture of theivery is growing every day!

cut the side wall out of the tire and put them in the dumpster can be done very easy with a box knife and is legal in MO any way that is how the tire shops around here dispose of them
