A friend of mine has a compressor with a JD industrial engine. This may be the same engine that is in some tractors? It is a four cylinder with a 1 1/8 in bore serial no. is CD4039D354005 He needs a head, piston and sleeve, a used head would be the first option. The valve cover is a composit material. Any info would be helpful. Stan

1 1/8" bore? And four cylinders? What is this thing, five horsepower? A three cylinder Deere with a 4" bore is usually close to 40 horsepower.

your engine is a d239 if i remember right.the same engine that is used in the 2355,2555,2350.2350 tractors

I have a JD 219 that I would like to get rid of. It is the power unit for a Leroi air compressor, compressor is junk.

That is a JD 4039 Diesel naturaly aspirated engine and it sure as he!! isn't a 1 1/8" bore.
Very common engine in the older utility size tractors. I work on Ingersol Rand compressors with that angine quite a bit. We have six of em in our fleet.

You've go to look closely at Deere industrial power-unit engines. Many are not suitable to stick into farm tractors even though they would bolt right in.

Most of the newer power-unit engines have thin blocks since they don't have to support the front-end of a tractor. That's the the problem. Bolt in a thin-block engine into a tractor that uses the engine as part of the frame, and the block will crack in half. Most older Deere tractors rely on the engine block for support. Maybe the new ones too, I haven't looked closely lately.
