OT Do you ever wonder .............

off topic i know but does anyone else ever wonder what happens when the black stuff stops coming out of the ground ??? if it"s this year, next year or 30 years from now i believe it will happen
realize most around here are like myself, middle age & not destitute so i imagine we"ll muddle along ok until were on the other side of the grass but do worry about the future for the next generations wish a world of scientists that can go to the moon & build massive complex weapons could find the time to build transportation that isn"t dependant on a non-renewable resource guess i got that off my chest
bob

Well... Apparently there is a Never ending Supply of the "Black Crud" that Gas/Diesel is derived from, But it does make You think sometimes when times like these present themselve, I seriously doubt You and I, will ever have to Worry about it,it;s Totally Politically Oriented.just My$ Larry KF4LKU

Have you ever seen a definitive report by geologists that has stated.....The Oil is Running Out?

The reserves of crude oil are enormous. If, for a genuine fact, the crude reserves were nearing an end, something would be done. Regardless of what some factions would have you to believe, the oil companies will not keep pumping until one day they announce, "That's it, all gone, ain't no more to be had......we're going out of business and you'll be walking within a week."

The last report I read on US coal reserves stated that there is 'at least' 300 years at current levels of consumption. The same folks that keep statistics on that fossil fuel, keep an eye on oil reserves, as well. I don't know what the current projections are, but rest assured, there is plenty. Otherwise there would be a massive conversion effort going on to use another fuel.....like coal, especially in industry.

you know, i've pondered that myself. when you think of how much petroleum is consumed worldwide on a daily basis, it really makes you wonder how long it will last. not only as a fuel, but also plastics, paints, household products ect ect ect. just sitting in a traffic jam in a major city, figure how much fuel is in the vehicles around you, then think...this is world wide. dang.......

every once in a while the oil companies have to rock da boat, scare people up,tell them we'r running out, time to up the price.
there's plenty oil every where. They find new fields all the time.

And i do not think oil is left over animal and plant matter from the last millions of years either.

Hey its all about MONEY money money money money, get the drift.

we do not have to run out to get in a problem. We just have to need/want more than is coming out of the ground. that will happen soon.

Yes, I've heard some geologists now think that oil is being produced all the time. Probably not at the rate we are using it, but I never thought it made sense that it was dead dinosaurs, or other matter. It's being made deep down and moving up, seems more likely to me.

To go along with what you have heard IndianaRed, they are reopening old wells in my area because there is oil in them again.

Very good. I was listening to the radio on a run down to southern IN/northern KY yeasterday and they were talking about how many new wells are being started down there. We are, in fact, going to drill our way out of this.

regardless of how much oil there is under ground as long as we have a Congress that declares some of the best oil reserves off limits to drill we will run out not from lack of availability but because of stupidity.Oil supply world wide right now is very tight and just a 10% decrease would cause major turmoil.40% of the world's oil passes thru the Straits of Hormus which the Iranians could disrupt any time they want. Not a good situation

The sand plant I work in is making what they call Frac sand. They coat it with a resin of some sort and its blown in to the old wells and gets into the cracks etc and pushes what oil is left up or out so it can be pumped out.
I know this is a rough way to put it but this is how it was put to me. There is a lot more to it than this I am sure.
There is HUGE $$$ in it because they are talking about backing off on the fine sand to make mostly Frac sand which is coarse sand.

Better start wondering about lack of wood in the years to come. I live in the northern part of na and believe me the woods gonna run out long before the oil. They got tree stripping machines now that would startle the average persons idea of lumberjacking. Its alllllllll about the money.

Some facts on how big the Earth is...

If Earth were the size of a basketball:

-All the water in all the world’s oceans would amount to just two teaspoons.

-A very fine, very short length of human hair could lay on its side and fill the Grand Canyon to the rim.

-A tiny bead the size of the period at the end of this sentence could not be completely submerged in this sea. Even if it rested on the seafloor in the Mariana Trench, the deepest spot anywhere in the ocean, less than half of the bead would be underwater.

With that now in prospective, the deepest oil well is about 12,000 meters deep (38,000 ft., 7.2 miles), and the Earth has a diameter of about 12,750 km (7925 mi.) at the equator. So the deepest well that we have ever drilled went all of 1 PERCENT into the crust of the earth. I know no more than that, but if I had to guess, the other 99 percent of the depth that we haven't gotten to yet probably has some black crud laying in it. Now there is the core and magma in there that we can't really use, but we have had contact with VERY LITTLE of our planet. My 2 cents.

Whoops, I made a math error. Thats .1 percent.

(7/7000) X 100 = .1

So .1 percent. Even less than I originally thought.

There are far more trees today than there were years ago. Do some research, you'll find that to be a fact.

Yes, those machines can strip tress down fast, and then they have another machine that can plant them just as fast. Trees are a crop, like corn, wheat, and beans.

My Grandfather, who is 88, lives in Kansas where there weren't a lot of trees naturally. He says he can tell a great difference from when he was a boy to today.

Fear not, the trees will far outlast us all.

I heard tonight the United States consumes 25% of the worlds' oil and we have the equivilant of 3% in our reserves. Drilling it would help but be far from solving the problem.
