Ron,

It may be the pop-off pressure for the injectors is set a little too high. This will delay fuel delivery a little bit and will result in unburned fuel coming out the exhaust. If the pump has been rebuilt properly and the pump timing is correct, I don't know much else, unless the injector tips are incorrect, with atomizer holes too large diameter. My first tractor was an 801 with the 172 diesel and it started right up every time with a little black smoke but never unburned raw fuel--like the kind that'll burn your eyes and throat...if it weren't for a tree crushing it during hurricane Dennis, I'd still be using it...

Thanks to all for the information, had the pump rechecked and injectors.Pumpshop found nothing wrong, but there's something most deffintly wrong.
Thanks ROn
