Last year I had some trouble starting my S-10 when it got real cold (although I think it was the battery's fault.) This year I'm living in N. Minnesota where it gets down right frigid. I think I should install a 120V block heater. What would be the best application and who makes 'em? Any help would be much appreciated...snow's gonna fly any day now! G'night folks.

This is going to sound strange but are you sure you don't have one on it now? Every S-10 I have looked at had one. I thought they came to Minn equipped this way.

You can probably get a heater like this from Phillips & Timro. They're easy to install in the lower radiator hose. They may have block heaters too. Hal

what about a pan heater or dipstick heater to warm the oil? I've seen them in JC Witless before...never had to use them down here in Va though

I will second El Toro"s reply, lower radiator hose heater works great. I"m 60 miles south of you, been here since "58, and tried them all(heaters).

OK,The frost plugs are next to impossible to get at on the 4.3

A lower rad hose heater works best on these.Get from Napa or Carquest.

Make sure the heater slopes up toward the engine via water pump inlet.

10-4. I can't even get to the dang spark plugs on that engine, so I figured a frost plug heater was out. Thanks for the info!

The heater I posted a picture of is tied into your heater hoses and will only heat the engine which you need. It doesn't heat the the coolant in the radiator. Its a lot easier to install too. Hal

My 1999 S-10, 4 cyl, came from the factory with
a frost plug heater, I got it new from Midway
Chevrolet, in St. Paul. I thought that they all
came that way.
Check for a cord coiled up under the fuse box,
on the drivers side, under the hood.
