Oil pressure

I just bought a Massey Harris 44. It starts after about 1/2 second (no kidding). Runs great and I am very happy.

The question is what should the oil pressure be and when? When I first start it the oil pressure is pegged off the guage 9over 40 psi). After it heats up the oil pressure goes down into the 20-30 range (forgot the actual but it holds around 30).

Does the pressure increase when you increase engine RPM's? If so, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

May want to change the oil. Don't know where you bought it, but maybe it has 40-50 weight oil giving it higher oil pressure and better compression.
Sounds like a good tractor but by changing the oil you will have a more definite idea that the engine isn't doctored up.
They are a good tractor.

Between my dad and I, we had the same 44 for years, and it sticks in my mind the oil pressure usually ran around 30. The engine was fresh when I bought it, and I know my dad had it rebuilt at least once.

If it holds at least 30, you should be good to go.

That's another tractor I'd gladly buy back today for what I sold it for.
