OT- Tropical Storm IKE

Thanks to all for your thoughts and prayers over the weekend.

Nancy and I made it through the storm with very little damage.

Parked all the trucks and tractors in an open area near the garden.

Nancy wrapped and taped plastic bags on tractor exhaust pipes and magnetos/distributors.

Coffee cans also put on tractor exhausts.

Rains began about 12:30pm on Saturday and lasted through midnight.

Lost electrical power about 1:45pm and decided best thing for me to do was to take a nap.

Power came back on at 3:30pm - less than 2 hours without power!

Eye of the storm passed through around 6pm.

Lots of high wind but not the heavy rainfall that was predicted.

We took a tractor tour Sunday morning to check for damage.

One large 8"-10" limb broke from Cedar tree, small limbs broke from 3 other Cedar trees, top broke out of Sweet Gum tree, one 8"-10" Sycamore tree down, one small Sweet Gum tree down, and one broken limb on Pine tree.

Round bales in the hay shed didn't get too wet.

No flooding in the "bottom".

Pond did not overflow.

No damage to any of the "out" buildings.

Our farm was spared from any large scale damage.

Since more than half of the tractors needed to be moved around, we decided to take a "team" photo.

No problem starting any of the ones left outside in the rain.

Sunday was a beautiful day and I got to drive all the tractors.

Let's not forget those that were less fortunate.

I am so glad for you. I see that you covered the mags. A lot of people don't know that the plastic on old mags is no longer water proof. Friend found that out. Brought home a W9 running good. Gave it a good water jet cleaning and was 3 months befor it dryed out enough to start.

Hard to beleive you made it through with that little damage or power outage.

I'm clear up here in North Central Ohio and we had terrible high winds from Ike. Some of my shingles are off the roof, electric has been off since 7:00 pm yesterday, trees down everywhere roads blocked, schools closed. I can't imagine how bad it must of been down there before it weakened.

Just wondering, How close are you to the ocean?
I am in Michigan and the remains of Ike gave me about 5 inches of rain yesterday, and rain on Saturday too makes for a messy driveway, yard, crawl space. (lucky I didnt lose power)

Still that way down here in Cincinati area too. Last count, there was about 500,000 customers still without power around Cincy. It's a good day to have a pickup truck, and you can collect CHEAP firewood from the neighbors!

It was still a good idea to do all that you did...reminds me of the old fisherman"s proverb for when caught out in bad weather: "Pray to God but row towards shore...".
Glad you all made it OK.

I'm in ohio,over 600000 without electric,over 70 mph winds,big mess.No rain though,we could have used it.

I'm glad everything turned out ok for you folks no offense intended but please keep those hurricanes down your way LOL our Ohio trees don't like those continuous 75mph winds for four or five hours my neighbor has about 25 trees downed in the fence rows, driveways and power lines my old 031AV STIHL needs a breather however I think the old girl likes it after almost ten years under my workbench doing nothing starts on the first pull. I'm not so eager need the old horse limenent tonite should sleep like a baby though feels good to help someone in need after all that's what us country folk is all about.Make note self make sure to bring home ear protection next time HUH? LOL

Here in W.Pa., we had high winds, not much rain. Trees lost lots of leaves and branches. And they all fell in my 3 large yards! I've spent all day cleaning them up, picking up lots of branches, etc.
Wind broke off a large wild cherry tree at ground level, but it fell into an old oak, and is caught up there at a 45 degree angle, and another dead one came down into the first one! A Mess!
Fire Company was out on lots of calls for downed wires, trees on homes, traffic signals out, and blocked roads, from downed trees. Didn't lose our power, but did lose cable TV!
Son lost power, and borrowed my generator. Probably won't see it back for a while. If our power goes out, i'll need it for the wife's breathing apparatus. Although, i can borrow one from fire co. if need be.

hey james and nancy, great to hear you are ok and made it thru with minimal damage. hadn't seen any post from you and was getting a lil nervous. bout ready to send the troops down lookin for ya'z. wonder if i can ask ya a small favor. next time ya brew up one of them texas sized storms, send it south of the border, not north. had close to 10 inches of rain sat and sunday up here in illinois. soybeans were about ready to combine. got about 60 acres or so under water right now. wonder if i can put pontoons on the combine????

Very good news that you folks are alright down there.

We got some decent gusts here, topped out at about 60. Heard they recorded 78 in Ashtabula. No rain but we had quite a bit Thursday through Saturday. Power flickered a bunch of times but didn't go out. Local cooperative is darn good at what they do. Some tree branches down but nothing major. Waiting for it to dry out now. I'd like to be mowing again Thursday.

It is very hard to see the destruction on the coast down there and realize how lucky most of us are.

Several lives have been changed forever it that devastation.

I pray for their healing, strength to go on and the courage to do so.

I am very glad for the grace God has shown you guys.
