carb trick needed

Just bought a MF Super 90 w/marvel scheb tsx 986-1, which has been sitting for a few years. The float pin is sticking. I have tried cleaning it and it will run about 30 seconds and then quit. Seems the rubber tip is a little enlarged. I can get a rebuild kit, but don"t want to spend the money on rush shipping just because I need the pin. I just need it to run for a few hours to get it on and off a trailer to get it home asap. I am hoping someone may know a trick to dressing the pin to keep it from sticking. Something that maybe gas won"t degrade immediately but yet will lubricate the pin for a while? I know one little pin can cause one big headache. Thanks in advance.

smooth that tip out with one of your wife's emory boards, then work in some vasaline ( not a blob, just work it into the surface)...make sure it's not the float that's hanging up while you have it apart

I will try that.

Definitely isn't the float hanging. You can see the pin hang when apart. Shouldn't the pin have a spring on it to pull it open?

Remove the needle and seat (yeah that's what it's called a NEEDLE, not a pin), and soak them in some spray carburetor cleaner sprayed into a glass jar.

This will remove the sticky gum or varnish that is causing the needle to stick to the seat.

On the DOHC Honda motorcycle board, It is suggested to use a Q-tip and Brasso [brass cleaner] to throughly clean the inside of the seat area to get a clean smooth finish to eliminate needle sticking.

Pull the float pin, remove the float, and then remove the needle. Spray the needle and the seat liberally with aerosol carb cleaner, blow it dry with compressed air, and then reassemble. Should be good to go. (Hint) this a trick I use with brand new needle valves and seats also.

sometimes the float is spring loaded, but that's more to dampen vibration than anything else...sometimes the needle is clipped to the float so the weight of the float forces it open...
usually, though, it's just a gravity deal

HOURS or MINUTES? Ive loaded some with just the starter before, and it didnt take hours.

99.9% of the time it is the gunk on the three sides of the needle that are hanging up. Dress the three points of the needle with a fine file, Mark A is right. I use a drill bit with a pair of Vice-Grips to clean the seat just do not drill the bottem where the needle seals.
