O/T Ike has our farm in his sites

According to the 6:00 pm weather, sometime Saturday Ike will pass directly over our place in n.e. Tx. Current prediction is for 50 - 70 mph sustained winds and very heavy rain.

We are moving all the tractors to an open field away from trees in case the awning where they are usually parked doesn"t survive the wind and/or heavy rain. Like James said, better wet than damaged. Air/exhaust stacks & magnetos will be wrapped.

Generator will be primed and ready as will kerosene lamps, flashlights, plenty of water drawn up, & non-perishable food. Friday I will be filling containers with water & putting them in the freezers to help keep things cold. Your prayers will be appreciated.

Our prayers are with you.

They only have it listed as a Cat 2 with 100 mph winds right now but it is sure large in size. Even though it is 200 miles out in the gulf; waves are at 27' and rising right now off the mouth of the mississippi river.

Wind has been blowing hard (30 + mph) all day here in south eastern La.

Good Idea, to move tractors put to an open area. We once lost a car to a huge oak falling on it during a tornado. May the Lord keep you and yours safe.

Yeah good idea for the tractors. Take your seat cushions off of them too, and maybe just buy flapper caps for your tractors exhaust. Don't forget to put all your brakes on!

You could also brace the awning on your shed. I usually do this by nailing criss crossing 2x4's on whatever posts are there.

Tarps are obviously useless anywhere in this case.

Best of luck. Just remember, everything except your life can be replaced. Don't do anything crazy like trying to save a chicken or tractor.

Our prayer will be that God will keep you and your family safe and secure.

The effects of this is being felt all the way over here. Lubbock has had 7 1/2" of rain since yesterday. All schools are closed due to flooding, they it is the worst they have ever seen in Lubbock. We are further west and it have been raining here since 5:00 pm yesterday.

Stay safe and dry.
God Bless
Gary

DO you think God is trying to tell you Something ???????????????
Please take notice -- and Listen up !!!!!!!!!!!!

Take what HE Gives you and Thank Him ........

After the last goround, guess if I lived in a place where flooding was a problem I'd have a life jackets in the attic and something ready to cut a hole in the roof. Hope you just get wet.

Good Luck to you and James.
We to are in the path of Ike, but we are facing a double dose. Our ranch in Schulenburg, Tx is forcast for 70-80 mph winds and our house here in Katy, Tx is in an area which the eye may pass right over.
Hang on tight, Texans are tough!

Forecast now has Ike a little more to the west, so probably won't go directly over. Wind predictions are still 50 mph +. House will give the area where we park the tractors some protection from the wind and the house is well built. Thanks for the support, and yes we're going to hunker down and ride it out. I'll let ya'll know how we fared on Monday.

Hope everyone comes out ok but 50-70 mile per hour winds really are not that bad. We get winds like that everytime a thunderstorm comes through here in iowa. Hardly ever damages anything.Just feel fortunate that you are not getting hit with an ef5 tornado like we had up here a couple months back. over 200 mph winds and 10 inches of rain makes for a bad day. Good luck.

Sorry if your worried, but the news people are hyping it up. 50-100 mph wind are not uncommon were ever you live. Bring yourr gabage cans in and put some rocks on loose sheet metal.
I think the news media should be hung out to dry. when the storms gets so far inland they shouldn't be allowed to call it a tropical storm/winds.

Tie everthing down and hope for the best . I was in Texas during Carla "Bergstrom AFB at Austin " But Road the storm out down on the coast in a MARS station "40' Box trailer. Wasn't a operator just the truckdriver I was elected because I had Tractor trailer on my license. Always my luck Didn't enjoy that assignemt at all.
