Honda Foreman

Looking at a 2002 honda foreman with 5800 miles on for 2600, anybody know how many miles they are good for. Runs out good and looks good, thanks for any replies.

Mine"s got a shade over 11,000 and a 99 model. Its been through the ringer too. Doesnt use a drop of oil and runs great. I"d think 2600 is a bit on the high side but I havent been following the ones that actually sell on ebay to see what they are bringing. Right now, with the economy where it is it appears to be a buyers market.

I have and 04 foreman and i have a buyeroffer for 3500. I dont want to sell. They are tough machines and i go to the foreman forum and read a lot about them. Mine only has 3100 miles on it.

I have a 2006 Foreman and like it a lot.

I noticed that there are a lot of them in the paper locally all of a sudden. I spose folks are trying to get rid of them before winter.

I think you can do better if you do some shopping. I also own a Kawasaki that was 5 years old with 890 miles on it and always kept inside, paid $2500. That included a folding loading ramp and some other accessories.

You may tell us if it is a Rubicon, 450 or 450es.

All great working quads that should run to 20,000 miles if taken care of. But....my 2002 Foreman 450 dropped an exhaust valve seal at 6400 miles and it was $900 to fix with a new head, etc. Freaky deal but the rest of the motor looked like new inside and I plan to run it for years. Just turned over 8,000 miles this summer.

I have dealers tell me that that "darn odometer" makes it harder to sell used quads. Think how many Honda 300s had been through multiple sets of tires and have huge miles on them but nobody was counting......

If you buy it, and it sounds like a good, fair deal if it is clean, check the left rear wheel bearing as they can be a maintianence item.

ONE THING TO LOOK FOR: If it has been ridden by kids or adults who like to go "muddin" and play "submarine", run away very fast!!!! It never hurts to take along a 17mm wrench and look in the front and rear differentials for good clean oil and not muddy, milky oil. Stick a wire or your finger down it them.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the replies, my recon went down yesterday and its about used up, but i am having a guy put rear end bearings in it, its just been a good machine for me. I will have to look tommorrow, i think its just a straight 450, its on a dealer lot, seems like a lot of miles but i looked at another foreman at a different dealer with 10,000 miles on and he wanted 2800 for that one and its not as nice as the one i am looking at. Drove a couple ranchers at another dealer but they don't have odometers, one ran good but you could tell its been around and the other one was good condition but engine was sluggish and had a tick to it, he wanted 3500 each for those. I will probably get the 2600 one and get the recon back up so atleast i will have a spare, just cant do anything without them. i will have to check out that "foreman forum" i didnt know there was such a thing. Honda dealers within 150 miles are sold out of new recons and arent getting any for a month or better, i think they quoted me around 3700 for a new recon (2wd), they also have very few used ones, i guess they sold well this summmer. Thanks again for the replies.

Here is the link to the Honda foreman website. I know from reading the forum covering the '05 Foremans, it appears a lot of these guys really abuse their machines. They buy them, they can do as they please with them. I know I ride mine hard, but I also maintain it well. But overall it appears from reading about the abuse these guys put their ATV's through, and how they hold up well, that the Honda's are a quality piece of equipment.

My 03 Foreman has 10,200 mile on it, and starts right up even in sub zero temps. It has been giving me some transmission problems lately. As soon as irrigating season is over I'm going to have the shop look it over.
