3 point lift arms

How are the swivel balls in the lift arms inserted? During the production process are they heated and then pressed in.......just curious. Also, what do you think of a Farmall 300 gas and Farmall Super C gas? They aren't running and are in an auction this weekend but are they worth fixing and getting in running shape to play with. Thanks.

Thanks Lanse - What I'm referring to is some times parts are hard to find for certain models or they are a real bear to work on. I don't mind projects but I don't want to create a lot of aggravation for myself either.

First off the Super C is great tractor. I had one and absolutely loved it. It's one of those tractors that can be as handy as a third thumb. Small enough to be nimble, big enough to tackle some serious work. Parts availability is almost unlimited. Parts wise it's much the same story for the 300 although I think that it might be a little more difficult to find some pieces like the emblems and name pieces. It is however a lot larger tractor and will consume a considerable amount more fuel. Hope this helps, Sam

If you are looking at a Super C,it would not have any lift arms with the ball unless it has had an aftermarket 3 point conversion. To my knowledge, the only parts not available would be replacement parts for the 2-point fast hitch. Everything else should be available no problem, either from your local CaseIH dealer, or from many other sources. I have one, which is a family heirloom if you will, and they are a wonderful machine to use and enjoy. As poor as it is, my memory still recalls hour after hour of mowing hay, raking hay, hauling loads of both hay and corn silage, cultivating corn, hauling manure, etc. Plenty of power and great manuverability for many, many jobs. One word of caution, in my opinion, though. They are not good for a loader - the engine block serves as the frame and with the torque tube have to handle all the abuse that a loader will create. If you want/need a loader, get something newer with 4WD, power steering. and 3 point on which you can place something (a 30 or 55 gallon barrel filled with concrete works great) as a counterweight.

I think the swivel balls are pressed in. Might be something in the archives on here if I remember. I've seen 3 pt. replacement balls for sale. Dave

A 300 is a very nice tractor, easy to work on and has pretty good power too. Many parts are still available. My Dad has a 1956 300. As for the Super C, I don't own one (yet), but I've seen and heard them run and they too look like a very good tractor, they are a little hard to find because they were not built for very long.

I don't really think a 300 is too bad on fuel at all. Emblems can still be found, Steiner or OEM sells them and I see used ones on eBay sometimes, but they are both very good old tractors.

On the lift arm balls, one (single side swaged) or both (double swaged) side of the "pocket" is left straight, then the ball is inserted and a BIG press folds in the lip. I've seen it done, I think I have a video of it someplace...
