Well pump problems

The well pump for the house has been giving me problems lately. Put in a new jet pump in the basement 3 years ago, foot valve last year. Everytime the pump kicks in it has air in the suction line and takes a bit to get going and spits air out the faucet. Sometimes even enough to loose all pressure for a couple seconds till it regains prime. I am assuming the worst a leak in the suction line and thought of digging up the yard is not appealing.

I have 1 1/4 suction line and can get a 3/4" black poly pipe through it.

The real question is will a 3/4" suction line be ok? Its only about 60 foot worth of pipe and 6-12 foot of it is verticle lift.

Had the same trouble as you awhile back. Pump man replaced the line where the leak was, lucky for me it was near pump.used 1 inch plastic pipe.. Well is close to house.

Air comming into the system could be from the air cushon in the tank. If the tank is a diaphram system, then it would not be the case unless the diaphram is bad.
if it has a pitless adapter, it will require digging to disconnect the pipe from the well head then cap it and put pressure in it to see if it it holds pressure. The O rings of the pitless adapter can also be bad allowing air entry.
I would find the leak by isolation befor replacing parts/digging. JimN

I have a similar problem but I think it has to do with a clogged whole-house sediment filter, at least, on my system. When the filter gets clogged the faucets spit air and the pump takes a little to catch up. Once I replace the filter, the problem goes away until the next time it gets clogged.

I"d surely hate to dig up my line as well; mine actually goes under a town road.
