Long tractor oils

My 360 1978 Long tractor slowly leaks hydraulic/transmission fluid into my engine. My brother has a 1975 445 model which uses the same motor oil in his hydraulic system as in the engine. Does anyone know whether there is ONE oil that would be compatible for my engine and hydraulic/trans system? It is only used about 5 hours a year--no heavy work. I am concerned as to whether the hydraulic/trans oil will harm my engine!

We owned one Long 550 and two Long 445's. The transmission and rear end housing served as the hydro. fluid reservoir. You need plain (non detergent) thirty weight motor oil. This is so that it will not foam. By the way, many parts from the Longs will interchange with the small Olivers, Whites, and AC's. Certain Long models were mfg. under Fiat patents in Rumania and the other makes were built by Fiat with Oliver, Moline, White, Allis Chalmers, and probably Cockshutt's names and paint on them. I also owned a 1974 Oliver 1365 row crop. I restored it after a major fire and used mostly Long parts because they were a fraction of the Oliver parts cost. The Long R-9500 was a good tractor with the same Perkins Engine as the 1100 MF. It may have been built by Fiat. The Long 900/910, 1100/1110, and 1300/1310 were built in Poland and were a POS series of tractors. Stay away from them.

That idea of detergent oil foaming is an old
wives tail thats been around for years, and is
a bunch of balony !!!
The detergent aspect of oil helps keep the dirt
particles in suspension, until they reach the
oil filter to be filtered out, It keeps the
engine cleaner and has nothing to do with foam
or detergent as in laundry soap. all modern oils
have anti foaming inhibitors.

I certainly appreciate this response------if anyone else has any info relative to this subject, expecially as it pertains to my 1978 Long 360--please submit-----thanks again
