@*$%* deer! Wife needs new car.

Wife has been wanting a different car for the last year or so, but what a way for her to get it. Her 99 Corolla has has a wind whistle on her side since she rolled down a iced up window and messed up the rubber seal, I told her just drive it another year or so until my current Corolla mail route car gets tired. Has always been on Castrol Syntec, 100 percent mechanically sound at 150K miles. We were on the way to town for groceries this evening, about 7:30, nailed a deer HARD, or should I say it nailed us. Just glad it it didn't come thru the windshield, also glad air bags didn't blow. Bumper and grille are perfect, it caught the hood and crossmember, popped battery, all the plastic bottles, etc. wide open. Engine is hard against firewall, intake manifold tubes mashed into radiator. Neither fender is even scratched. Just glad we are both OK. It's a total, engine was screaming WIDE open from jammed linkage, set check engine light instantly also. Wish the H#LL gov't would declare open season on deer like needs to be done. DOUG

Govm"t and insurance folks ain"t gonna open season on such a money maker.

Did $2500 worth of damage to my Cavalier first week I had it in 02 on one.

Nice wish to have anyway.

Dave

4 years ago I hit a deer with a 02 Saturn, $2,600 in damage, insurance paid for the fix but in Michigan deer are all over. Just waiting for another deer/car wreck

The state of IL allows these worthless overgrown parasites to kill and injure people and cause property damage. If a farmer allowed his livestock to cause this kind of damage he would be sued out of business. But the state makes a pile of money out of hunting permits so it's OK.

there thick around here too, 1 wore out one of my friends old pickups, the solution seems to be a 3/4 ton pickup with a "ranchhand brand" front bumper, so far in the last 2 years she hit 2 more deer, got 2 dead deer, no damage to pickup, the ranch hand bumper is not a city dude wanna be grill gaurd, this thing is massive, it probably weighs 500 lbs or more, has a 2 inch hitch receptical built in and looks good too, it replaces the whole front bumper assembly, oh and its made in america by americans which means it aint cheap either but cheaper than a body shop

Last year my brother left his home in leonardtown Md for a meeting in Richmond driving his excursion. Hit a deer 3 miles from home that wiped out the nose and radiator...he turned around and limped it home, figuring to have the wife call it in to insurance.
Swaps the crashed Excursion for her Range Rover Discovery ( high maint wife?) and 4 miles down the road hits ANOTHER deer- pushed the aluminum nose of that almost to the firewall.
needless to say, he never got to Richmond- only thing left to drive was his ford tactor

yep but thats because the farmer who owns the livestock is available to be summoned into court and sued,so modern sue crazy people do just that never caring that the money they might win from the farmer will destroy what he built for himself with a lifetime of work , they just want that new beach house, nobody owns the deer, well i guess god does, the problem with sueing god is its a little hard to find somebody willing to deliver the court summons to him, since apparently you got to be dead to see him,

In Wisconsin a state trooper, or county deputy
will give you a "Car Kill Deer TAG" and you
can enjoy fresh vennison. Hope you didn't leave
it for the crows and coyotes !

Herd on the radio this morning that a guy on a motercicle got hit by a deer while he was going down the road.
Nobudy was hert.
Man-0
Deer-1
Fatality-1 pair of undershorts.

The right front fender on my son's Buick was just replaced for the third time because of deer damage. The first two fenders were replaced by the previons owner for the same reason.

So far I haven't joined the 'hit a deer' club, but a deer did wipe the passenger mirror off my wife's car a few years back. She didn't know it was gone until I drove it a couple days later. Geesh! Jim

Between three deer hits and a parking lot fender bender, this Olds 88 I'm driving has had both fenders replaced twice, the left headlight twice, the grill once, the right headlight once, had the hood straightened, and had the front bumper cover refinished, at various times.

Driving with the wife in our F350 a few months ago a deer run out in front of us and I locked the brakes just barely missing it.The wife told me I should have run it over because she wanted venison for the freezer.

Here in Ioway, the DNR claims they own the deer. BUT, if you roadkill one and try to make a claim on the DNR, they"ll just laugh at you yet won"t give you the carcass for your trouble. Sounds like Wisconsin is ahead of Illinois and Iowa.

Sounds like your brother lives near me. If he see's a fellow with a silverking its me. My sister has hit so many i have lost count. last one 2 weeks ago. It went right into her driver side door. She could not get out the door would not open. Shes way too big to make it out the other side. Someone else grabbed the deer before we could get back.

That is all well and good, but when I hit mine it just put a slight ding in my factory bumper... and spun into my wheel well.

Not to mention those overbuilt bumpers are great for killing other people in car wrecks as well, I would rather pay for bodywork than try to sleep with that at night.

If you kill a deer without a permit, the govt can fine you, imprison you, and take away anything you used to harvest said deer (gun, bow, truck...) It is rediculous as there are more deer in the country now than when Columbus landed here hundreds of years ago, we could stand to lose more than a couple.

It seems to me they would really like to have all the perks of owning them, aside from the liablity.

But if I hit a cow, I won't go suing for a beach house or anything, but I do think it is fair to get my truck fixed and any injuries taken care of by the cow owner. I think the same rules should apply for deer since they are such a controlled critter. Even a partial payment or something would be better than nothing.

My son in law just got permits for 4 deer here in NY
He will probably get at least 3. My grandson has
permits for 3 and can get another if he buys a
muzzleloader. He's talkin about $600 for a lifetime
hunting license.

2 weeks ago, a motorcycle guy near here hit a deer @ 6 am, on his way home from work, while he was lying in the road, some idiot ran over him, and didn't stop. He is really broke up now.

Ranchhand is located in Shiner, Tx also home to Shiner beer. I have Ranchhand rear bumper, bed rails & headache rack on my Dodge 3500 DRW 4x4.
All of the things they make are tough.
If you drive around at night in this part of Texas and don't have some sort of protection on the front of your vehicle you are either in the body shop or drive VERY slow.
