Lanse: After reading your last couple of posts it's sounding somewhat depressing, you wrote things like, these broken tractors what's going to break next,
worthless animals, things getting stuck in mud, crappy roof in shutty garage, didn't grow worth a damn, taking care of non-laying chickens What you need to do get some of Dads old spice and find some young school to make you happy, Then in short time broke, you be right back here loving those Old broken tractors, and animals. Been there done that. Sean

Don't you believe it. If you're sick of farming at your young age, think of what a crabby old dink you're gonna be after several decades of this crap. Find out what you're real passion is while you can still get out of this with your sanity.

I am finding Community College to be a life changing experience for myself. I played around in the farming lifestyle for a few years, and found I got nowhere. I will be starting my second semester tommorrow. I feel a whole lot better about myself now, and finally feel myself coming out of that awful rut I found myself in.

If you have any questions about what it is like to be a community college student just ask.
At my college, you can start taking college courses before you graduate from high school.

lol it IS depressing :)

One thing at a time. Today i took down the fresh egg signs by the road. Couldnt help but wonder if i earned enough to pay for the scrap wood signs. Done that twice and never doing it again. Anyone want some chickens??? And the good news is only 2 sheep died this year. Wonderful.

Our soil here sucks so i decied to plant some kind of cover crop. I got everything mowed, plowed, and 1/2 disked. So far all thats happened is the plow radomally falling off the tractor, the coulter breaking, me smashing my hand, destroying 2 shear pins and running over a bucket. Atleast the tractor worked this time. No miserable hyro tranny. Or loud cab.

Now i just have to get MY tractors running. Im going to attempt to get the sleeves out of the block later on.

The POS mower i bought just became the bottom of my scrap pile (unless someone wants a DB mower). So far theres 2 rims and this block goes on there later. By the time im old enough to drive this stuff somewhere there'll be a couple hundred dollars worth.

After the B is fixed i'll start devideing up the C. Some things im keeping, some im selling. Nothing goes to scrap however. Not selling the WC and a lack of work last summer once more means no H money. Im thinking of fixing the WC myself and selling it. Or my friend "Germ" has dibs on it.

The other day we were in wally world and, walking through the door, i heard two clerks talking to eachother. One said she'd be here 13 years next month.

That right there is my modivation to go to collage.

I don't have to look very far to find plenty of motivation. There are millions of people who are working dead end jobs and getting nowhere. I am a first generation college student. Nobody even in my extended family has a degree and I see their struggles daily. The last thing I want to do is quit. My dreams are way too big to be nothing.

INaH I like your attitude like the Air Force says your attitude affects your altitude you just may be able to buy your own farm someday and do whatever you want with the right education I just hope you pick the right major to git ur done.CT

Thats inspireing, thanks.

Welcome to YT, and you really do need a handle. Mabey we could all take up your cause and come up with something. My real name is Lansing, so you you can figure out how i got my handle, so im not the person to ask.

actually I am not new to ytmag by any means. I've been posting on these boards off and on since about 2000. Basically I've lost several handles since I never reserved one and I have just started using "I need a handle" lately.

I'm glad you find it inspiring and with a little luck, we will both beat the statistics and become successful.

Thanks. I have been putting enormous thought into a major, and have not totally decided upon one yet. At this point I have pretty much started on a math major, but that may change to engineering or computer science. I am afraid majoring in business might be a mistake. What ever I choose it will be good. I want to make lots of money and have been doing tons of research on different careers. This next summer I am hoping to get an internship so I can try a career on for size and get valueable work experience. I need more than a few minimum wage farm jobs on my resume.

My plan is to perhaps be able to buy some land and try playing with crops later on in life, but right now I know I need to study.
