I click on a bookmark and I get the message at the bottom of the screen that I am being connected to sites like Facebook. Sites I have never visited. How can I regain control of my computer?

Do you have anti-virus/anti-spyware software? If not, get it. There's free stuff you can download or buy a package (TrendMicro, McAfee, Norton).

Then do a scan of your computer. Also, don't open suspicous emails. Be wary of visiting unknown websites.

Somehow you have gotten infected. I have used the system restore function to eliminate these kinds of gremlins.

Assuming that you have windows XP:

Go to the start button on lower left. Click on it and then click on all programs. Look for "accessories", then "system tools", then "system restore". It walks you through the process easily. You will not lose any files that you created, just settings that have changed. Pick a date that you know it worked ok.

It's painless even if it doesn't solve the problem. It will however wipe out any updates that took place in the period so you may have to go back and get those.

I agree with the previous replies. Spybot and Anti-Virus are the first things to check.

AFTER that, go to "START -> Windows Update" and get all the patches for your operating system. It may take a while, but it really is worth it in the long run. Many of the patches are to fix glitches that Microsoft has found to protect your PC from "malware."

Finally, once you've got all that done, get a registry cleaning program. The one I use is located at <A http://www.registrycleaner.com>http://www.registrycleaner.com</a> A lot of old baggage can start collecting in your registry, and dumping all that old stuff can really speed up your system.

download spybot search and destroy, install it, update it, then scan your computer. get rid of anything it finds. then get adaware and do the same with it(download, install, update, run). then repeat both. then get easycleaner. download install and run. do not use the duplicates button!!the others i have used are ok but i haven"t used them all. if you do not have a good antivirus then download avg8 free version, install update and scan. again get rid of anything it finds. all these programs are free, including avg, they are available from the website 100-downloads.com. this will take some time to do all this, hopefully it will help, it has for me on several computers, both mine and some friends. you might want to defrag your hard drive while you are at it.

You don't have to download anything. Just do a system restore on your computer. Hit START>ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS> SYSTEM RESTORE> RESTORE TO AN EARLIER DATE. After you get there put in a date a couple of weeks ago when your computer was working right and let it do the restore. It should come back to life like it was before you got the trojan virus on there. Good luck!
