E L D Back when the 1370"s and the (I think) the 1466"s came out, my boss had the 1466 and his son had a 1370, the 1370 would out pull the 1466. We were plowing in same feild and the Case would run circles around the Int and it did"t even have a duel on it.

I think I might hold out. The guy has lowered his price by $500 since he has first advertised it, about 3 weeks ago. He is asking 6k, I just dont have much experince with Case equipment. The powershift trans scares me away. I really dont want that on anything. Too much $$$ to fix when it goes wrong.

In the 27 years I have been in the farm machinery business, I have seen and heard nothing but negatives about the transmissions in the Case 70 seies tractors. They are sort of fragile and when something goes wrong it takes everything out. I would stay away.

Please don't take my word for it. I have been out of farmong for somr years. I was a Case man..Best tractors built. Drove LA, 930, 1200 night and day. If I have the numbers right, the 1370 was a great big lemon. If I have the number right, you don't want any part of it. I could have it mixed up with another, so get more info.

I also recall that the 70 series had many transmission problems. The casing was built too light, and any hiccup in the transmission deformed the case, resulting in your tractor becoming a large boat anchor. Just my recollection, which may be affected by the passage of time.

The 70 series cases were a good tractor. If you use the powershift trans like it is supposed to be used it will last forever. If you mistreat it you may have problems. These case tractors are like any other. You have to take care of them and use them like they are meant to be used. I wouldn't be afraid of it if it has been treated right.

Well lets see... we have currently 3 1070's, 3 1270's, 1 1370, and a 2390. Have had 3 other 1070's too. So far we have plain wore out the clutches in on 1070 (excess of 7000 hrs pulling its heart out), sheared the clutch pack bolts in a 1070 and 1270, had the belleville spring on the torque limiter clutch get weak and eat the facing off, and currently have a 1070 with a minor internal powershift issue. Sound bad but none of these have less than 3000 hrs and all but one have over 5000 hrs of max pull on them. The 2390 has 6500 hrs and never been touched and one of the 1270's had 7000 hrs on one tach, 3500 on another and working on 3500 on this tach... thats over 14,000 hrs with no powershift troubles. So yeah, I guess they are as reliable as the operator.

We also had a new 1070 -one of first an used it hard for 7000hrs . Hauled many 3500 gal load of manure uphil basically an shifting on no slip black top road thatis harder than in soft ground. Only trouble mistankely running it with p shift in reverse when on silage blower causing 50cent shim to overheat. Was a cheap 1 day fix.

The only new tractors my dad ever bought in his life were a 970 and a 1175 case, back in the middle 70's. They were both still pulling strong when I left the farm in 89'. Dad retired in 05' and they were still going. Sold them both at an auction. My favorite was the 970, with the power shift (never had any transmission issues). Man that thing could pull! Would pull a 5 bottom plow thru black dirt in north central iowa no sweat! Another thing that I recall was they were much more fuel efficient than say a JD 4020. My 2 cents worth. Good-Luck in your choice!

It was the 1570 that was a problem. Same tranny as the 1370 with about 50 more horse if I remember right...

The transmissions are as reliable as the operator lets them be...abuse them (downshifting under load using engine braking, not changine fluid/filters) and they will break, just like any powershift. Ours had around 7000 hours when we sold it, and we never had a problem with it, dualed and loaded up in the summer and loader/feeding duty in the winter.
