Bought a new TV, dvd, Direct tv HD box. Close to $3000, all in. TV, Sharp 52 HD, no workee. Can't get it to work. Hooked up old tv to new box, works fine. Apparently new tv is bad? Bought it from Best Buy. They don't want to talk to me - call 1-800 number. Thanks, guys. It will be a very cold day before I spend a dime there. I might as well ordered off the internet.

If I buy something and find it does not work I take it back. They give me another one or my money back. Has worked well for me for over 50 years.

Best Buy seems to be known for not being reliable when something goes wrong with something they sell. Best to stay away from them and best to use a major credit card when making purchases such as these!

I have bought a couple fo things there and returned, last item was a DVD a cuople of months ago. they gave me another one with no problems. Before that I bought the wrong mem chips , returned them unopened and they gave me the right ones.

Now they are cracking down on returning items just to be returning them. like a TV bought for superbowl weekend and then returned....
People abuse return policies and the innocent ones returning things get bit.

The only way to buy is off of the internet. 1 1/2 years ago I bought a 37" sharp. I check with Best Buy and Circuit City. They both wanted $1800 +. I went to cnet.com and looked up the Sharp. Got it from Buydig.com for just over $1100. No tax or shipping. No problems

The internet employs no one in my community.

For the most part I only buy off the net if I can't find it locally.

The long term cost of shopping on the net is not immediately apparent.

Just my opinion though.

I bought a computer from BestBuy--warranty was no good. They wouldn't do anything. Now I don't even look at their store when I pass!

Looks like if you're just now hooking it up, you just got it, so pack it up and go get your money back. If you're not going to give them anymore money go get this money back too. It'll wake them up.
Doesn't look like their restocking fee applies to anything you got.

went thru that a few years ago in Florida with a computer that my daughter had to have for colege. hers crashed and she needed another one right away.
Best Buy insisted on checking the boxes before checkout and after checkout wasted well over 3 hours with the run around BS.
ONLY to have to replace the mnitor a day later and that had to be shipped in as Best "FU" Buy would not take it back
Needless to say no more of my business go there

Please get in touch with Best Buy at: Customer Service 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289) for the fastest response. And, please let us know the outcome.

Two things:

First, does it even come on/light up? Those input menus have to be setup to "talk" to your system.

Now, the bad part:

Second, Best Buy only sells "seconds". They don"t handle the good stuff. There is something wrong with it or else it wouldn"t even be in that store. It is usually a cosmetic issue, but never-the-less.........

A friend of mine bought a new TV at walmart and couldn't get it to work.Turns out it was an HD
television, but not digital. They tried to sell him one of those converter boxes to make it work.He took it back.

Don't buy anything from Best Buy anymore. But when I did I always put everything on a credit card and let the credit card company deal with them. Always got my money back.

Small local dealers could not afford to have dissatisfied customers. When people started buying complex equipment from chain stores service went out the window.Any thing you buy will need repairs. The first color tv I sold needed a new picture tube when it was 3 weeks old.I sold a lot of color TVs to customers because I was there to do repairs when they were needed. You will have trouble getting any service on your new China made tv.

I often wondered what they sold in those stores. Thgought it might be liquor or something. Thanks for telling us and warning us.

And it aint right. My 3 tractors survived a combined 200 years, and, if they can survive me, they'll be all set for another 200. After that 200, they dont owe anyone anything and can RIP in a musam.....

I would call the 800 number. Possibly something simple and nothing wrong at all. I bought a new pansonic some time back. Wouldn't work. I called pansonic, come to find out it had to be plugged into the wall rather than into the strip plug i was using. Works just fine & very happy with it now.

I haven't done any business with them for two years, they screwed us on a six months same as cash deal. My wife missed the fine print that said you have to pay at least $10 bucks a month. She paid off a $600 TV in five months but missed one month and stuck us with a $35 late fee. And the fact that I was having to deal with someone in India didn't help. So they won't get any more of our business, ever.

I called their 1-800 number. I am supposed to get a tech out tommorrow. I don't get anything but a fuzzy snow screen. They asked me to bring it back, but I hate to try to get a 52 in tv into my truck and carry it 25 miles. I would rather have a amicable deal. They promised if the tech can't get it to work, they will replace it. Btw, the china thing is right. I don't think you can buy any US made electronics, maybe a Bose sound system?

I bought a Mac Performa 6400 from them, and the extended warrantee. When I had a problem I took it in, told them that the CD drive had failed. The salesman said it would be a week.

A week later I went back and was told "Oh we never said that. We send warrantee work to Chicago and it will be a month."

A month later they contacted me. They had found the problem. The CD drive had failed. Now they would have to order one.

Another 2 weeks and I had my computer back working.

I will never buy an extended warrantee from them again, and I will only buy name brand from them

Also, what sort of regional repair shop doesn't stock common parts? If I hadn't had that extended warrantee I would have ordered the CD drive myself, had it in 2 days, take the cover off , remove 2 screws, pull the old unit, put the new one in...

10 minute repair.

Just bought a 52" Sharp at Sam's Club- very happy with it, but Best Buy is certainly on my "never again" list. My business Laptop had a problem recently, had to have it fast, so I went to the Geek Squad at Best Buy. They said they could fix it easily. This was on a friday night. I told them they could have it all weekend, but I needed it by Monday morning. The repair would cost a flat fee of $200, but they couldn't put me in front of the 25 other computers awaiting repair, so it would take about two weeks. OR for DOUBLE, they would do it right now. They would be more than happy to push back their other customers for an extra $200. I had no choice, and they new it. After paying up front, as required, it was fixed in 20 minutes. Now I know I agreed to their supposed "policy", but I will never do business with a company again that conducts themselves this way. I bought a backup computer, and someone else will get my business in the future.

Wow, 3 grand, and it dont work, he says no worky, If he dropped 3 grand on repairs for his american made home, with an american contractor, listen to him squeal!!! if its not up to his standards They are just crooks! but its ok my 3000.00 dollar tv dont work, they will send out a guy that gets paid minimum wage to fix it for me, just as long as I dont have to pay him!!!! nothing personal spook. just the world as I see it through my twisted mind. Ive heard you all whine about the price of parts at dealerships to keep your machinery running, but dropping 1100.00 on piece of plastic built in china is a "good deal"

Hi Spook,

You do realize that most newer DVD and HDTV have to be trained to talk with one another to operate. This is accomplished thru the OSD of each unit.

The old days where you pull it out of the box and plug it in and it works are long gone. It now requires extensive reading of the owners manual, then some SWAG work. lol

Yep,

Target, WalMart, K-Mart, etc., etc. They sell the low end of the low end.

For some quirk of reasoning, we humans will trade off quality and opt for the cheaper prices.

You don't have your "inputs" set up right on the TV's setup menu.

Newer TVs are a whole different ballgame than the old ones were.

Ive repaired 2 fence chargers this week, cost each owner 30.00.New chargers of the same type cost 150.00 plus 7.50 tax.A third cost the owner 34.00, new replacment 200.00 plus 10.00 tax.

Ben to Best Buy a lot, where does it say or how did you find out that they sold "seconds"?

I heard of WalMart spec'ing out their products, but even the company with the easiest return policy doesn't want the stuff to come back.

I do pretty much all my own repairs. You have never heard me complain about the cost of parts for my tractors. I guess my real complaint is that I spent money at their store and when I asked for information, I was given a 1-800 number to call. As far as the china thing, I think that boat's already sailed. I don't think you can any consumer electronics made in this country. As far as what they pay their people who fix things? I don't know. I suspect you are right. But what am I supposed to do about it? Not buy anything? I see the results of a lopsided import policy every day. In southern Michigan ya can't go to far before you run into a abandoned factory. I bought some sweet corn last week from a guy that used to have his own machine shop. He had 10 employees and a buttload of cnc equipment. He made parts for American built equipment. The automakers are using a lot of foriegn built equipment now. Any repair parts come from Japan, Germany or China. Last big project I worked on, the Japanese builder would have been bankrupt by our standards. But their government subsidized my employer buying the equipment, rather than put a couple thousand people on unemployement. They exported their unemployement to us. The American bidder shut up shop a couple months later. They were bought out of bankruptcy by the Chinese. Hace a good day.

I used to spend a ton at Best Buy but have not spent a dime there in the last three years due to their return policies. I got a stereo for the wifes car for christmas present and needless to say it was over the 30 day time limit after it sat under the tree and then did not get installed until after xmas. It did not work right out of the box and the attitude at the customer service was tough sh%t. I am a real electronics nut and spend a lot of cash on all the latest "toys" and now I refuse to go there. I found a local store that gets higher end equipment that isn't sold at the box stores. I spend a bit more now but I know that these guys will help you out when something doesn't work. If you google bestbuy you will find websites full of horror stories trying to deal with them.

Well I guess I'm lone man out as I have had good products from Best Buy. That said, I haven't bought from them since 1997.

I bought a Magnavox 27" television from them in 1994 and it is still going strong and operates just like it was still new.

Second large purchase was a computer, monitor, scanner, & printer. It lasted 7 years with the hard drive finally failing. It needed replaced before then for more speed, updating from Win95, etc.

I have a local independent electronics store that belongs to a buying co-operative. As a result they have just as good of pricing as the big box stores and I assure you they want your business and bend over backwards to provide service. They will even come out and hook up simple TVs although I haven't purchased from them and needed that.

Hello Spook
Allen is wright snow means lack of signal.
I bought from Best buys in 2000, $1,200.00.
Never again! The BEST thing they know how to do besides ignoring you is pass the buck, and tell you to call the 1 800 number.
Hope they help you out, they did not help me to my satisfaction. No money loss just ..... the aggravation I had to go through.

Bought a small chest type deep freeze from Super Wally Mart, took it home ,plugged it in and checked it after an hour or so -no cold temp. Called Store and they told me as soon as it was paid for and left the counter that was my problem. I called for a manager and he finally gave the number of GE repairman and he repaired a broken freon line. They (Wally) spend no money on gauranty stuff that's why their service ratings are int the bottom of the list.

John T hit the nail on the head. New TV needs programming. Last 5 or 6 I bought I swore something was wrong. Sit down and read and read like your life depended on it and you will get er done and be PROUD!

my xperiance//// bought the x-box when it first came out but had heard horror stories about trouble so i opted 4 the 2 yr extended serice plan at best buy! just before the 2 yrs was up
