IH 574 Power Steering

I have a IH 574 with an intermitent steering problem - not a big deal yet - but it is annoying. Normally steers ok - but when turning steering wheel quickly to one side as when making a sharp turn, momentarily loose power assist on steering, but then it comes backafter a second or so. This is more noticeable when using the loader or operating the PTO. Don"t notice this when making a slower or less sharp turn. Also at times have problems engaging PTO clutch while operating 3 pt hitch.

have replaced HyTran fluid and filter not too long ago. Removed flow divider valve - this was a little sticky, so I polished it up with emery cloth and reinstalled - problem seems a little better but still noticeable. Also visually inspected O ring on power steering relief valve - appears ok - but looks original.

Any ideas on anything else I should check before removing MCV and taking MCV/ pump to dealership ? Could pump seals be leaking ?Thanks for your comments - appreciated. JC - PA

On our old 574 utility, we used to have that problem also. what we found out is that when the loader is in operation, and the pto is running, there is an increased demand for the hydraulic fluid, so something has to suffer. pick the loader up after you turn, or shut off the pto before you turn. Also, check your brake bleeder valves. We had a hell of a time with air getting into the hydraulic system through a busted brake bleeder fitting if I remember right. Good luck!
