cummins mileage

Has anyone got this kind of mileage? My son and I went to fuel up his 97 dodge 5 speed manual, of course I had to pay. He calculated the mpg at 26. He said he has done this twice now. I thought he was better at math. I'm not convinced yet. He drives 50, slow starts, shifts at 1500 rpm.

I've got a '93.....bought new, coming up on 250,000 miles, 5-speed, whatever the low speed rear end is( can't remember without looking it up); it's the '1st' generation Cummins and I've consistently gotten 20-21 mpg.

Brother's 98 Cummins will do 24 mpg at 70 mph. I think the lowest he's gotten on the highway (no pulling) is around 18 or so.

Those old 12-valve Cummins are good engines!

We have a 95 Dodge 4x4 3500 5 speed manual which we bought new.

Nancy says it gets 13mpg pulling the horse trailer with 7500lbs at 65mph.

She says it gets 16mpg with a light load, 5000lbs or less at 65mph

She says with no load at 65mph, we get 18-19mpg.

I usually drive 50-55 mph in Dallas traffic.

Never have to change lanes and never pass anybody.

Since Dallas is considered having some of the rudest drivers in the nation, I get shot at a lot(with the middle finger)by those whose horns no longer work.

Being a temper mental person (90% temper - 10% mental) is one of the many reasons I have not acquired a concealed hand gun permit/license.

I apologize for getting off topic.

Well, you must be setting the example James. I have noticed here lately that Texans are not blowing my doors off as they pass me by. In fact, I passed a few on the highway coming home from Tulsa a couple of weeks ago. They may have been a church group going home from Branson though. PS, I drive 10 mph under the speed limit any more to save gas.

My old 92 Dodge 3/4 ton 4X4, w/ 160 HP 12-valve Cummins and 3.52 axles will get 27-28 MPG on interstate trips. Even a cargo of a thousand pounds does not affect that.. It drops a little for heavier loads. It is a shame that they used latex house paint on those trucks... it washed off in a few years.

It's an '03 HO, so it's got the HP common rail injection, making it a different beast, but I get about 20 running around bareback in mixed driving with mine.

01 2500 Quad cab 2wd longbed. 3.55 rear axle. I can run 70 mph and get 20-21 on the highway. Hauled my Super M to Tunica last year and got 12 consistently.

i have a '94 12 valve, it gets 28 running empty and around 15 to 18 with a 18,000 lb trailer hooked depending on terraine, mines a automatic with a 3.55 rearend, i drive the speed limit empty and about 55 loaded just for safety, if some idiot screws up in front of me 55 is alot easier to deal with than 75 with that much weight

For the most part the majority of legal, licensed, insured drivers, with state licensed and state inspected vehicles, in the Dallas/Ft.Worth metroplex area are either "safe" or "defensive" operators.

At the other end of the scale is a small percentage of those that will crash into a vehicle, kill or critically injure the occupants of the other vehicle, and either drive away if possible or run away from the accident on foot.

If they are ever caught, they generally admit to no wrong-doing and have no remorse; however, they appear to be very camera shy because they always cover their face or cover their handcuffs.

Unfortunately in the Dallas/Ft.Worth metroplex we usually have at least a monthly occurance of the events described above.

The scary part is that more and more of this is occuring in the rural areas.

I have Dodge 1993 4X4 Cummins diesel engine and it has 12 valves and it has 330,000 miles and it runs like a fine watch. Cummins is good engine and hard to beat. I also have new Dodge 2004 with cummins engine. Whenever i start 1993 Dodge i always look at passenger side mirror and look at lots of black smoke coming out muffler. I love it.
