Farmall 560 won't run

When starting my 560(gas) it fires and sounds like she's gonna run but when the starter is released it dies right away. Its been running all summer, though a bit rough. My buddy thinks it could be the head gasket after we checked the spark and the float. Anybody got any ideas?

Check that ignition resistor.

Sounds like it is only working on the start circuit.

As Allan says, your white ballast resister is bad. Wire around it,it should start, but you need to replace it. You can get them at an auto parts store.
