Im sorry, I know this isnt a tractor, but I dont know where else to go. I bought it last Sat at a sale, and the guy said he had dropped the top in loading it, and a line broke. It uses either Sulfur Dioxide, or Methyl Formate. I cant find either of these. Is there something that could be used instead, and if so, what would I have to do to use it. Thanks alot guys. Bill

I've got a couple of Monitor Tops and they still work - so I've never has to find gas or convert.

The Methly Chrolide gas is still used commercially and is available for commercial use only. It also used to be used in making leaded gasoline. Also known as - Monochloromethane, Methyl chloride, Artic, Freon 40, R 40, UN 1063, R10, R40, or R48/20

As far as the Sufur Dioxide does - it's still a common gas but not sold for refrigeration. It was known as R23 or R24.

There are some replacement gasses available - but all require a lot of work to install - e.g. changing the oil, the drier, etc.

Both the old gasses are toxic to a degree - but what isn't?

Would propane work in that application?
Do you have a picture of those old fridges. There were some interesting inventions brought out in that era.
My parents still use the 1955 vintage freezer dad bought. They couldn"t plug it in for 3 months until the local power grid was switched from 25 to 60hz
