I just got my oats harvested 1 big acre. I'm going to put corn on it next year. The question is a cover crop now for a little nitrogen. I have some soybean i could put on it. Would that be as good or what compared to say rye, or a clover at this time of year. Seem to be getting alot of rain lately around here.

I would save the fuel and seed money and use it to buy Nitrogen in the spring.

You will be better off.

Thanks for the input Gary, Dave. I'm just trying to get my 12 acres into some kind of a crop rotation. Clover would have been nice , never thought of that.
I do have a grass seeder on my drill. this is a low budget operation i's gots a going on here if you know what i mean. LOL I have 6 acres of crops i use to get some feed for my pig n chickens. And ya know the wifes horses up to 2 now and a small one this spring.
Just looking for a little nitrogen. I got some left over beans from last year.
I've got a friend that has some rye if i want it . Maybe leaning towards rye.
Any and all suggestions for future use are appreciated!!
No humidity this morning and 62 out. finally went for a nice easy 2 mile jog this morning.

Consider peas if you have critters to eat the crop. Austrian field peas or some mixed yellow -Wisconsin vegatable fields would be putting in the fall crop of peas about now, beans for grazing and plow down also about now for a second crop. Mixed oats and peas sometimes used for silage, green chop and occasionly baled for feed. Clover rotations old standard. If you have 2 grown horses the pea stover with some pods will be a fair winter feed. Soybeans now- a little close to frost in Wisconsin but Southern Illinois would get mostly grown and dried down. Chinese Black high protein soybeans are shorter season for green harvest- make fair animal and human food. RN
