Not sure what I have. There is an 8N on the block next to the starter motor. I cannot read the serial numbers on the block near the head. All the other parts look to be a 9N or 2N. See attached photo.

Thanks, John

then you have an 8N.

Basicially the 9N was built from 1939 to 1941
the 2N was built form 1942 to 1947. After that is the 8N.

Your photo diddnt come through, but email me at [email protected] and i can give you instructions on postin pictures.

AND-does it have a 3 or a 4 speed transmission??

It could be an 8N engine in an 9N or 2N rest of a tractor

Someone put an 8N engine in it along the way. Easily done. With those wheels, three speed trans, etc. it's definitely not an 8N. Now, is it a 9N or a 2N with an 8N engine? Who knows? You might have the best of all three worlds.

3 speed makes the tranny a 9N or 2N wheels also point to that. If the engine has 8N in the serial number then the engine is 8N. So what you have is a mutt, as in something some one built from 2 or 3 other tractors. Is the distributor up front or on the side of the engine. If up front its an early 8N engine if on the side its a late model engine

The I beam wishbone says it is a 9N, to cut steel usage on the 2N (war time tractor that came out in late 42) they went to the tublar wishbone
