Gar Wood was a industrialist who built bodies or coaches for the early automakers. He also raced hydroplanes and was a pioneer in that also. I would be interested in how old that sign is. By the 50's Gar Wood Industries had a plant in Wayne, Michigan. About 20 miles west of Detroit. I would guess that the sign would be from the 30's or earlier?

thought it might have come off of a old t-20 or t something dozer. may be the hyd. on a old dozer were made by this co.?? just guessing

I'd like to find one of those cast plates from a Bucyrus-Erie crane or drilling rig. Somewhere I saw a picture of one of my Grandfather's drill rigs and it had a large Bucyrus-Erie cast plate on it. I have a plate off a huge milling machine that an old guy scrapped out that says 'Earl A Thompson Manufacturing Co.' The old guy told me this was the same company that pioneered the Thompson machine gun, or 'Tommy gun'.

I"ve seen "GarWood" dump truck box"s. I"ve heard
about the wooden boats. sorta like the old
Cris Crafts. But I thought that the company
was more into construction equipment such as
pull type earth movers.(pulled behind cats)
