What Ya Don't Wanna Do

Preamble: "Was" helping a neighbor cut some hay up in the timber. Somewhat less than "linear" hayfields. :>)

What ya never wanna do is "cross" an unknown boundary between two fields on unfamiliar ground................................additionally, ya don't ever wanna lay that swather over on 'er side neither because ya fell in an overgrown washout gully. :>(

I'm here to tell ya, that things don't seem to work very well when ya get it straightened back up again. Seems like once those three tires have been in the air, they don’t care if they are now down on the ground or not. :>(

Anyone know anything about the hydrostatic drive on a IH swather? Yeah, I already poured in 2 gallons of lost oil. It just barely moves forward with the handle pushed clear off the map, “neutral is where “forward” used to be and reverse is where neutral used to be.

Think I mighta bent something? :>(

Oh heck yeah, just fine; it was kinda hard to get out of that cab door tho. :>)

Thing looked like a nosed-over airplane. Right drive wheel and the right side of the header were down in the hole. Everything else was airborne and pointing towards the heavens.

It only bounced a little bit when I drug 'er back out of there with the Powerstroke and a log chain.

Kept thinking tho, that ya NEVER hook on to a hydrostatic, but heck, it sure wasn't doing anybody any good sitting on her nose that way. :>)

Where are the pictures? Did you lose it in the wreck? I would fire someones but for doing that.
Professional drivers wanted.

Oh yeah, the joys of working on someone elses land when you don't know how it lays.

My favorite one is when the landowner say, Oh I forgot to tell you about those fence posts laying there in the tall grass on that corner.

Watched a friend fight the adjustment on his NH. It is not that simple. If I remember what worked was to jack the wheels off the ground and then adjust the control linkage to proper. His kept wanting to go in circles. Very critical adjustments.

Two thoughts- 1. You have a good sense of humor. 2. What gives with your neighbor? Least he could have done is make the boundaries clear. Need global positioning in that thing.

Allan, dragging the hydro <if not very far> should not have hurt anything. If you are going to do it more than a few yards, and slow, you need to take the sun gears out of the hydro motors at the wheels or if lucky turn the plate around on the motor cap, has a nipple, and that will dis-engage the sun gear internally. Need pic of motor at the wheel. If sun gears are removed or dis-engaged the brakes may not work!

I would suspect the cab mounts may have moved affecting the linkage. Or you bent the mount for the linkage where it attaches to the hydros (pumps). Does the hydro handle attach to linkages (rods) or to a push/pull cable?

Best (only) way is to jack it up and get both wheels to neutral. (have worked on JD but yours may be similar.
