Engine Mounted or Pull behind tiller

I have seen all of the discussions on the board regarding 8N's being geared to high to run a rear tiller.

My neighbor has a Ford 8N, he wants to get a rear tiller for his garden. I suggested looking for a step up/down tran for the tractor.

He said he had seen/heard of a 3PH rear tiller for small tractors with a mounted engine that ran the PTO instead of the tractor??? Has any one heard of or seen one???

I did some research and found a pull type for a garden tractor (lawn mower) but the widest is ony 36" wide do they make them 48" to 60". I beleive this would work as long as the 8N was in 1st with the trottled down.

Please any thoughts, ideas or suggestions????
Thanks

In new I've only seen the 36" ones too - Sears, right?

There might have been a few 40" ones with 8hp engines from the 1970s and 1980s but you'll be looking long and hard at Ebay to find them.

Thats a lot of tractor for that small of tiller.

The N will move too fast. Gearing is a good but pricey solution. I would look for a tractor that was less cute, and more useful. Any small Kubota, or New Holland will do much better. A hydroststic drive is superior for roto tilling. IPTO is also very handy.
The difference in value between the desirability (un warranted) on the N and the newer tractor might make it easy on your pocket. JimN
