Hydrualic shaft seal H

A few days ago there was a thread re replacing the seals on the hydrualic driveshaft. I have a leak there so I printed it out. Today I starterd the repair. Cover off, cotter pins out, sleeves back, coupler shaft drops out. This is going to be easy.
Three bolts out of rear flange, easy. But wait the flange won't come off. Looks like the slotted rear"coupler is threaded onto some sort of shaft.
Well after 2 hours of fighting the flange and the coupler , all I have is a real steady stream leak to show for it.
I got a pretty fair size crowbar in that rear shaft and did manage to move it about 1/8 of a turn, but it felt likw I was moving the tranny or something. I have the tractor in gear and it didn't move.
I don't have the top off the tranny case, and sure don't want to?
DO I have to get that short coupler shaft off the tranny side before the flange comes off, and How to do it?
On the brighter side, the H went for a spin around the property today, after not seeing the sun for 2 1/2 years!

Both transmission drive shaft & PTO drive seals are located behind the belly pump.
Put the transmission in reverse & lock the brakes. Use a bar or pipe wrench to unscrew the drive coupler, lefty-loosey.
Remove the 3 cap screws & the housing comes off with seal attached. Replace the seal & gasket, replace the 3 cap screws, screw the drive coupler in, righty-tighty, & you are done. Some oil will leak thru the bearing while you are replacing the seal.
Transmission drive is similar but you must remove the drive shaft coupler to get at the seal. Tip: when the nuts are off the tapered bolt, hold the coupler drive with a pipe wrench & turn the tapered bolt to loosen. Don’t try to drive it out or damage will happen.

I made a socket that slips over the coupler to go on the impact. Took a little time to make, but works like a charm.

What i did with my M is I got some ~1/2" square key stock and an old socket. I ground a slot in the socket 1/4" deep about half the thickness of the keystock. Put the key across the socket and the Hyd pump drive hub and took it off with a impact wrench.

Is this a record for assistance? Took just over an hour to get a good response to my question. Went back out there and put an 18 inch pipe wrench on that PTO coupling sure enough the tranny shaft was moving the engine, even in reverse. Jammed crescent wrench in the trans shaft joint and with a mighty heave the pto coupler broke loose.
Seal replaced, it wasn't real bad, but the gasket was cut and split up. Made a new one, had to fire the old .32 hog pistol to get a 5/16 hole cutter.
Thanks, one more job done.
Hood and fenders to paint when I get the right weather conditions. (Calm, dry, cool) we never get those on the same day.
