FSA Late breaking news

How in hell do they think the taxpayer should pay them to not farm and then buy their overpriced junk hay. I hope these foolish programs come to an end soon.

I tend to agree with you that these programs are bad news (and I'll be honest that I'm on the receiving end of them to boot).....good intentioned, but bad in the overall scheme of things. Why should I be given a hand out just so I can compete with the rest of the world? Let the markets determine what happens.

Probably because hay is needed in a certain area. How can you call it junk hay if you have not seen it? Probably a lot of good johnsongrass will be cut out of it, best hay in the world IMHO.

I call it robbing the taxpayer. How does it benefit wildlife, How can hay with a stem big as your finger be worth $40 and up. And if they are going to let them cut it they should pay back %100 not %10.

I also receive thousands of dollars in payments but think we should stop getting them. I do believe there should be a safety net but with prices of grain where they are I do not need the payments. All these payments are doing is driving the cost of land up weather you are renting or buying. I don't know the answer but how come these fat cats in Washington can't come up with something that is fair to all taxpayers?

That is because the biggest benifactors of these programs are the farms owned by the same ones makeing up these programs. Nice gig if you can get in.

Go to ewg.org see how many of you and your neighbors are using these programs. I've on the local committe on n off 40 years until just a few years ago ther was an office in every county in the US, plus virgin ils. THE fsa is a sacred cow that will stand as long as part time farmers keep their 20 acres, mule&tax shelters.

Good. Last I herd it was still tied up in some court case some bunny huggers filed.

Did they allow only hay or can you graze too? I"d rather get out the hot wire, stock pile my grass for a month or two than fight with hay"n ceder trees.

Tax payers are going to fuss about any thing that is done. They wanted to do away with subsidies that provided this country with the cheapest food in the world. Now subsidies have been cut and the tax payers are paying for food at Wal-mart that is being price by supply and demand and not priced low because of subsidies. (Think it's bad now, wait till after the first of the year)

I agree to a point. We dont have any of our land in the programs because we wont to be able to hay it or graze it how ever when ever. Now, they decide to change the rules....why dont they just send me a check for the money I lost out on for not putting my land in the program. They are messing with the laws of supply and demand. I keep my land out of the program so I should be able to reap the benefits of higher hay prices when the market goes that way...

I just finally got signed up for the gov't programs today. Didn't think there was gonna be one. And the people in my FSA/ASCS office seem to think we need appointments now to sign up. Used to just walk in.

50% of a contract can be mowed. It costs $75 per contract to release it for haying or grazing. If you have not already done so, it is too late to sign up. You had to have signed up prior to the filing of the lawsuit.

I just went to FSA today and this is what I recollect. Ask them to be sure.

I signed up when I certified my acres so I am good to go.

All CRP per my understanding could be mowed every three years with a 25% reduction in payment. Again, I think it was 50% that could be mowed in any given year. As I understand it, you could do 1/2 on year three, the other 1/2 on year four. You could then repeat as soon as the 1st half had another three years and the 2nd half the next year and so on.

Check with FSA.

If you root around, you can see what some of these guys are getting for payments. I'll have to see if I can find the link, but I've seen some guys that run a few thousand acres get an excess of $750,000/year from the gov. Where did I go wrong in life?

The fact of the matter after so many officials getting elected under the pretence of boosting farm economics with tobacco subsidy, or payout money here in Ky. The big thing was increasing beef production. Now we cannot get hay, only people on an inside basis with the office can get info, early enough to reap the benefits of the cattle programs. My neighbor had 185 acrs in last year got paid $19000, cut the hay and sold almost $40000 worth of hay for a mere 10% payback. By the time I learn about bull or fence programs they are always full up. My good friend has a brother that works at the office, he knows what is coming before I can here the gossip. Of course this is the American way.

Under the agreements you are NOT ALLOWED to sell the hay off CRP. For personal use, or giveaway, only.
