Fuel Bowl problem on farmall

Hi everyone. The fuel in my A has a steady stream when the sediment bowl is loose (too loose to hold fuel) When I tighten it it stops the flow of fuel.

any solutions thanks a lot

Assuming you mean the fuel at the carb stops flowing when the bowl is tightened up.
I would check the vent in the cap to be sure it is open. There should be a steady stream when the valve is open and the line taken off at the carb. There is also a screen at the carb.
With the valve shut off, the fuel bowl and screen can be taken off. Look at the screen, if it is plugged up, the fuel may not get past it when tightened. Carb cleaner will remove varnished up gasoline. JimN

do you mean that with the fuel line out of the bowl connected to the carb, bowl is empty and loose the fuel flows well, but as you tighten it up the bail fuels stops flowing into the bowl? If this is the case as soon as the engine starts creating a suction the bowl should fill.

Well if what your say is when you clean out the sediment bowl and then put in back on you open the valve and fuel does not flow thats normal. What happens is the carb if full and does not need fuel so fuel can not flow. Start it up and watch the sediment bowl and if the float in the carb is working as it should be the sediment bowl will fill up. Sort of like if you take a drinking straw and hold your finger on the end and stick it in a glass or water the straw will not fill up because of the air in it holding the water out, take your finger off and it fill same thing happens with the sediment bowl

thanks I can have the tractor running good with the bowl loose but when it tightens up the motor is starved for fuel (it will run smoother on choke)
could you think of anything else. thanks

Take the cap off the tank and lay it next to you on the seat. Start it up and see what happens. If it runs like it should then the tank vent is clogged If it doesn't then you need to check fuel flow to the carb
