Hello Guys.
I had a set of pistons and liners that I took out of a Farmall H about 6 years ago, the block and head were cracked when I bought the tractor,he had put new pistons and liners in, that engine had run less then two hours, this new engine I pulled the old liners, which did not come out easy, I took fine steel wool pads and cleaned the block and the outside of the liners that I want to put in, I then put the liners in the freezer over night, this morning I dropped the liners in the new block, 1 and 2 dropped right in, 3 had to be pushed down the last 2 inches, number 4 dropped in, 3 and 4 are ok, but 1 and 2 are loose, what did I do wrong ? is there anything I can do with 1 and 2 liners, please help, thank you.
Ken.

I do not know about a IH M but when we did this to Dad's 190 Allis we cleaned BOTH the block and the sleeves so they would drop into the block and could be turned in the block easily with both the sleeves and the block at room tempature. We used up about three wire brushed on 1/4 inch shank in an air grinder to clean the block. Then we installed the bottom O-Rings, oiled the O-Rings and quickly installed the sleeves.

The holes have factory variability. Letters are stamped next to the top on the deck surface. D is big, A is small. Getting sleeves that need to be knocked in the last few inches is correct. JimN

I recently put a new engine kit in a Farmall 200 and the instructions stated that the sleeves should fit so that they can be rotated with the hand after installation. This kit came from the local IH dealer. They went into place easily and could be rotated by the hand.

Farmall 200 and the above mentioned Allis have wet sleeves with O-rings.

H and M have dry sleeves that are a light press fit.

I've only installed 2 sets of sleeves and both of them I ran a rabbit turd hone enough to clean up the rust where the o-rings set in the block. Both engines went together with out any troubles. If I understand things correctly, the head when clamped on is what holds the sleeve tight. Needs to have the correct stand out to seal.

H and M do NOT have O-rings on the sleeves!

They need to be a light press fit, the head and head gasket may hold them in place for a while, but they will eventually come loose if they don't fit correctly.
