i need some help, we bought a 1550 oliver and it had a bad blow bye problem, we found that we had a piston with whole in one side ,got that problem fixed then we found that the head had three cracks, so we got another head off a 77, well didn't know that there was difference in the thermostat housing was differnt, when we went to put the head it liked a 1/8 inch touching the block, what to do?

First of did you have the head pressure tested? I am guessing this is a diesel. If so all those heads crack. Now you need to find out if the crack is where water is or not. On the older Oliver diesels I would worry more if the head was not cracked.
