Almost beat to death on a small tractor.

Is it just me, or do small tractors beat you up more than the larger ones. I mowed a few acres with hog, and the 25hp Kubota today to conserve fuel. I usually use my 42hpNH because as I now remember it doesn't beat me to death in the rough patches. Every hole you hit with that small tractor tries to give me whiplash. Anyway, seat time is seat time.

Yup. You're right - my experience, smaller tractors do beat you up worse than larger heavier ones. Have done my hay baling with a JD B and a Farmall 200 for several years.... Wife inherited her dad's MF 180, and it has made baling a lot easier this year. Suprisingly manuverable for a tractor of it's size.

Yes it is. Kubotas AC doesnt work half the time, differential lock is out, hour meter dont work, and 3pt is jerky. Plus the transmission is louder then the engine and bushhog combined. Its a very light tractor, and an unbelievably hard ride with a 3pt tiller. Its under a year, and has less then 100 "recorded" hours on it. It can do things the holland couldnt, but what the holland could do it did alot better. Anyone want a deal on a kubota??? I've started calling it "job security" since i'd like to be a mechanic

I think it's because of the shorter wheel base and the lighter weight. I noticec my M rides smoother in the same hay field than my neighbors 25 hp JD compact.

Well think about it. If say your small tractor has 24 inch rear tires and your bigger tractor has 38 inch rears you do/will feel the bumps more because on say a 38 inch tire it takes a bigger hole to have it drop in

Lanse,
That is not right, if it is less han a year old, and less than 100 hours, take it to dealer, it has a warranty for such things.

Bigger tractors ride smoother, but the beat up your wallet worse for fuel. It is a tradeoff.

Yup. Smaller and lighter tractors, espescialy those with much smaller tires, pound a guy to death.

Our 165 is a great tractor for raking hay when the loader is off, but it does bounce a lot more than our 285 does. Now it's a loader tractor so it doesn't see the feild much anymore.

Got bad back. Could never stand yard tractor. That is why I got Cub and Farmall A. With Cub I still need back brace. A much smoother.

is it the size or the speed when mowing. 71 3000 mowing 1st gear it feels like a caddy on land never touched for 50 years.

Yeah my late model Ford 2000 rides real nice, too. The rear wheels are set out a ways, the finger light power steering, and the suspension seat add up to a sweet ride!

Lance,

If all this has started between it leave'n the lot and now, you (or dad) realy needs to talk to the dealer about all this before your warranty is up.

Good luck.

Dave

It's not the tractor - it is the bumpy field that is your problem. Get it dead flat and your problem will go away!

It's not just you ! Those light short compacts can beat you up. Plus alot of them don't have the seats with suspensions in them and that makes a big difference. Likely the Kubota doesn't have a good seat and the New Holland may have a deluxe seat with adjustable suspension.

The dealer here is a joke. It just went in to have the tranny checked a couple weeks ago. They said nothings wrong with it. We first called them about picking it up six weeks before they showed up with a trailer.

Last winter, we sent it in to have the tires filled. It sat in their shop for 3 or 4 days before they did anything with it. Then they called around and found out none of the tire shops there filled tires. So, a week later, they brought it back. Nice. Real Nice.

I'd say it has 150-200 hours in the 10 months weve had it.

Would it be possible to let a little air out of the tires to soften the ride a bit? Might help some. Also, a big 'ol cushion under your derriere would help your hemis ohfred

Lanse, try Sealy Tractor in Sealy. I've done some business with them and they were very helpful. As far as the tires you only need a adapter valve to fill them with water. Costs less than $10. Turn the wheel so the valve is 3/4 of the way from the top, then fill until you hear the water flow stop making noise. You can check by taking valve stem out and turning wheel until water flows out or just push in the valve and when you see water coming out you know you at the level you want. But water will rust wheels. CC is best for filling tires.
