paint question- mini excavator

Looking for some opinions , I recently was able to talk my loving wife into allowing me to purchase my life long dream, yes , a mini excavator . 2001 IHI 28 J excellent mechanical shape, but paint is rough . I am looking to get away from the nasty baby blanket colors these are originally painted. I have decided on an equipment yellow and MF grey. I have the TSC paint in the shop, but considering the amount of work involved to prep this thing I'm wondering if I should maybe go with a better quality paint. Your input as always, is appreciated Thanks Dave

I think tsc stuff is fine, and my c was equiptment yellow for some time.

Get an angle grinder and a crimped wire wheel. Those things will obliterate grease, grime (but it will leave a residue) and cracked paint. Thats what i would do, good luck to you.

if you have a pressure washer you can go to TSC and get the sand blaster attachment that will make it easier and no dust but when you are finished you have to rinse and dry it quickly so that it don't flash rust. I use a leaf blower to dry my wife's car when I wash it at home. The paint from TSC is good stuff they sell Valspar and I have used it many times with great results. If you want it to stay shinny get the clear and the gloss will last longer.

The TSC paint is acceptable paint for about 75% of the projects a person could do. There are some though that deserve just a little better paint if you want to throw the money at it. I use a lot of the Valspar with the hardner and it comes out ok. Three years ago I painted an IH model 55 eleven shank chisel plow with really good Swift Red urethane that I bought at Car Quest. It has been parked in a fence row back on the property that I last used it and it looks like a show car after sitting ouside for three years. Very deep rich shiny paint job. I had to pay about $200 dollars for that gallon of paint with the catalyst that came with it. I actually bought it to paint the inside of a tractor cab and had enough left over for the chisel plow. Valspar would have cost me about $50 for the gallon of paint and hardner but it would not have turned out that nice. I think the paint was made by Western. Very good stuff. They have a color chart at Car quest for the off the shelf colors they offer. Good luck.

TSC paint won't hold a shine for very long..I'd go for a better quality paint...Despite what their can says...
