caulking gas line threads

Does anyone out there know what you can use to wrap on a gasoline line thread fitting that wont be decayed by the gas. I tried pipe thread and it just melts>

Most fuel lines are flared fittings made of brass. And need no pipe dope. Oil will do the the same.

Thread lube is just that thread lube. It is only to allow you to tighten the threads,it is not a sealer. If with oil it does not seal you have bad fittings.

No pipe fittings are design to need a sealer. They just need a lube to tighten better.

Just wrapped some fittings this weekend with the yellow (says for gas) teflon tape. Before that I wrapped some with the white teflon tape, and haven't seen any leaks yet. Got the yellow at Lowes.

I may be mistaken, but I think what when the yellow teflon tape says for gas, that it is is for natural gas/propane, not gasoline. Should work the same though. Just used more for identification than sealing.

If you're referring to NPT threads, and only NPT threads, Permatex thread sealant will work fine or a similar pipe thread sealant...........in a perfect world NPT threads can be assembled with lube only and seal, however this is far from a perfect world............

Fittings such as SAE, JIC, ORB, nut & ferrule do not rely on their threads to perform the seal..........the seal in those types of fitting are accomplished by other means sush as o-rings, tapered faces, compression, etc...........

I mention this since I've seen many people install sealant on a nut & ferrule compression style fitting which are commonly found on older fuel systems...............

Teflon tape ends up in carberators and can jam hydraulic controls, just take a small piece to cause trouble.
