Cleaning Parts W/Ethanol

When choosing between gasoline, 10% ethanol or E-85 for cleaning metal parts, what are the considerations?

I wouldn't use EITHER. One little flick with a hand wire brush and you go boom.

Kerosene works for me.

They'll all catch fire and kill you. Use "solvent" (mineral spirits)- not as dangerous, and if you keep it relatively clean, it will not leave a residue like gas will. Don't know if alcohol will even cut grease.

I generally use lacquer thinner. lremmoves all grease, oil and cuts all sludge and leaves absolutely no residue Nuff said Henry

Get yourself some Varasol or paint thinner and a good pair of long rubber gloves.
Leave the gasoline in the gas tank and the ethanol at the pump.

I use lacquer thinner to "finish off" a piece that I'm going to paint, but not for routine grease and oil removal. Biggest problem is, if you use it very much, you're drunk as a skunk in pretty short order. Nice thing about mineral spirits is that you can have it in a bin for a long time without much evaporation loss.

Turpentine substitute works great!!! The only problem is it's 20 bucks a gallon! I normally use GUNK Super Concentrate Degreaser mixed with No2 heating oil.
