What's taking black raspberries so long to ripen?

In Southern Michigan, black raspberries are usually ripe by the 4th of July. All I've been finding are lots of red berries but only one or two ripe at a time. Anyone else finding the same thing? I'm not sure they'll be ripe by August.

They were about 2 weeks late here also. The strawberrys were late also along with everything else.

Here in East Central MO, we picked the black raspberries about 2-3 weeks ago, the dewberries 1-2 weeks ago (still some late ones on the vines now), and the blackberries are finally starting to ripen. Usually, the blackberries are done by now, but with the cold, wet spring I think they were a little behind. Headed for the blackberry patch this afternoon - my 10 yr. old niece loves to help me pick them. If they're as good as the dewberries were this year, they should be awfully good.
