To pull the engine, is it necessary to lift the cab off the frame?? I've been told by one mechanic it is necessary to lift cab to pull engine.. Has anybody else heard this or can anybody know for sure???? Thanks.. I've got an 04 F150,, The fellow said that the first time I have engine trouble, I best unload it!!!1 thanks...

NO!! you dont remove the cab from the frame, remove bellhousing bolts unhook mounts and the usual stuff like most any rear wheel drive vehicle,Your friend must be on Drugs!!

nO WAY!! Pull the hood, yes...the cab? HAH!
And if it's a manual trans, I wouldn't even remove the bellhousing- I'd pull the 4 bolts where the trans bolts to the bellhousing and bring the whole assb'y out with the engine bellhousing and all

Well,,,,depends . I have had some here in my shop that pulling the cab was easier . in fact , Ford reccommends it in some cases . Especially with V10 . I would think you 'd be okay just pullin g motor, leave trans in truck , I try to leave hood on too ,,Unless really needed extra clearance.

I'm thinking T5...dunno what would be in this truck- not even sure a 2004 new body style was available with manual...

At our shop we have done it both ways. I believe that it is an easier job to lift the cab, it is not really all that difficult. If you pull the engine the conventional way it is a pain in the neck working under the cowl. Dave

Chevy S10 I changed trans. Was going to change clutch plate too, but something in manual said you had to lift cab to get clearance, so it didn't get changed. Was okay.

most of the time in the dealer or other shops I visit they have the cab lifted up with the lift to remove offending motor .

We always lift the cab, I can have the cab airborne in about an hour, saves me 5hrs on the engine swap, I wouldnt do it any other way. From the small gasser to the big diesel, its the only way to go.

You remove the cab on alot of Ford(and Im sure others, now) trucks. It makes it easier to work around and such. Its not that difficult, if you have the right equipment, i.e. a lift.
