Nice 8mm footage

i ran across something on youtube, footage of like 20 tractors in a field for a neighbor that broke his shoulder or something so everyone got together and did his field work. Was really neat.

Thanks, Matt! I'd not have found that myself, but certainly enjoyed it. Pointed up to me the differences in how different farms evolve. My family went from a binder and thresher to a PTO-driven combine that did it's own cutting rather than picking up off the ground. They never did have enough ground in small grain, or even with corn, to justify a self-propelled rig. Seein' that fella as a youngster in the wagon gettin' buried in ear corn reminds me that my favorite place when we were takin' off wheat was right up in the tank. It was warm, but I know I loved the feelin' of wigglin' my legs and toes in that stuff.

My Dad's family had closed their truck farm a few years before I came along -- that was mid-60s, he was 48 when I was born.

But I do remember getting put in the back of the pickup truck to "pack down" the leaves when raking in the fall. In hindsight, I think it was more a convenient crib then an actual job :)

Real nice visit to yesterday. While the machinery makes farm work much, much easier, its still hard work, but good for the body and soul.

It appears they were a well off family. Seemed as though they had all the "modern" equipment. Wonder if they are still in business?

Very nice. I'm still stuck somewhere near the end of the film in many ways. I never minded stooking oats, say up to 12-15 acres, especially if the binder had a buncher.
