John deere Bailer

I have an old T24 JD bailer, about every 7 bails the teath come up into the plunger and it breaks the shear pin, i know its a little out of time and haveing trouble getting it in time. anyone have any good tips for quick timming..

Get your book out and follow the directions to a "T".
Anything less will only cause you more headaches.
There are no short cuts when timing a baler.

Chris,
I agree with 02 on needle brakes need attention. If it was a little out of time it would most likely shear flywheel pin every time it tipped to tie. I'm curious if you don't know how to time it what makes you think it's a little out of time? Have you thought about purchasing an operators manual?

I don't have that model but check to see if the needle carrier pulls on a lever when it comes back that pulls the plunger stop back out of the way. On my 346 the dealer recomended welding a bolt on the needle carrier to pull the stop back a bit farther way from the plunger.

Have you replaced any drive chains or broke any.If you replace or repair chain you have to get same number of links in it.

John Heine,
What JD manual did you read that the same number of links needed to be used in a replacement chain? The chain only pulls from one side of the sprockets therefore what does number of total links have to do with distance between the 2 sprockets. The front chain on a 24T has an idler and I think it will run fine if number of links isn't correct according to parts list. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
