BEST PLOW to BUY

I always liked the jd hillside plows. take a little getting used to, but after that, oh man. Those and oliver were my two favorites

Kverneland would be my choice, if I could afford it. The reset mechanism is simplistic, almost no moving parts and there is the option of on-to-go variable width.

They are a little rare in the US, but they are around and the people that own them don't seem to want to sell them.

Oliver/White.Pretty darn hard plow to beat.Fans of all colors of tractors usually agree on this.Replacement wear parts easy to find.

Can be bought fairly cheap.IH makes good plow also.

If you've got rocks and heavy trash or corn stalks then all of the afore mentioned plows are great but if you have loose sandy soil then anyone will do and you might find some of the old Case/Ford plows are Oliver/White plows probably can buy them by the pound in some no-till areas you might find some of the premier plows at a bargain.

I've had two Melroe, two White, one IH 720 over the last 36 years. White (Oliver) was by far the best. 720 was popular, but with the auto reset, it likes to fail to completely reset if a cornstalk is under the plowshare. White resets perfectly every time- totally different mechanism- does not ride over little rocks or stubble. Ran them side by side, and could always tell which furrows were turned by the White. Much more uniform furrows.

Kverneland. Look around the world at who's still plowing. Look what they're using...
For the most part it will be Kverneland, or it will here in eastern Canada.
We deal with heavy sod here and it's about the only plow with an appropriate board to deal with that. Combine that with their long deep frame that has a lot of trash clearance, variable width and a very reliable auto-reset system and there isn't much reason to look at anything else.

I have a Deere 1450 that I bought for $300. Does a nice job and pulls easy. Everybody at the auction seemed scared of it being too big (its 5-18s) but I've used a JD 2755 with MFWD to pull it and it handled it fine but about a gear slower than I like to go.
