Fiber Glass didn't set up

What do you do with fiber glass that didn't set up?
I finely got around to repairing the feed mill yesterday, there were several rusted out places on the bottom of the auger pipes.
We were mixing it in pint batches and laying cloth around the pipe we didn't get enough hardener in the first batch and it hasn't set up yet( 15/18hours)
Thanks Larry

you can try a heatlamp on the fiberglass resin to see if you can get it to cure. a big spotlamp bulb will work too.

You could put a little heat to it and see it that kicks it of. If not you will have to scrape it off, clean it up with acetone and try again. If you used up all your resin, you might try WEST epoxy. I think it will stick better to metal and the metering pumps take the guess work out of mixing.

Mix up another batch with the right amount of catalyst and lay it over top with another peice of cloth. It will set up, and the catalyst in it will help cure the lower layer.

If the heating idea doesn't work that others have mentioned I would scrape it off and start over. On a mill like that you will have a fair amount of product moving with some force through those areas and a poor job might end up in redoing the fiberglass again anyways. Let us know what you did!

If you put any hardner in it at all it will eventually set up but I would use heat of some sort, maybe a blow dryer or a heat gun used to remove paint. Over the last 50 years I have had lots of experience with fiberglas including putting a new layer of glass on the bottom of my 48 ft salboat. Polyester resin sets up fast and cures hard but does not have the strength and durability of epoxy resin. Epoxy is not only stronger but also is 50 times more waterproof that polyesters. One thing to remember epoxy sticks better to everything but polyesters will not stick well to epoxy. Nuff said Henry

I would back up and punt. Remove everything you patched and start over. Use the correct mixture this time and you'll be good to go. David.....
