Ford 800 series

I'm rather new to the world of tractors. Last year, I bought a wonderful Ford 800 tractor from a friend and set out to learn all that I could about the machine. I have a real general question.... Why is it that there seems to be so little available information about, and interest in, the 800 series? It seems to be a high-quality, powerful,well-designed and attractive (subjective, yes) tractor; so I'm surprised at the relatively low or lacking, popularity of this series. Any thoughts on this? Thanks

A close relative owned a Ford 861 with power steering. The tractor was powerful, and nimble for it's size. It was the only tractor on his 80 acres (he milked) and never required any repairs except power steering cylinder seal replacement and the expected ignition parts in the 35 years he operated it. His 70 year old son has given it to his 40+ year old children and I suspect it will never be going anywhere in the next 40 years. My brother desires a larger utility tractor (now has our Ford 640) and would love to purchase it. I would also buy it in a New York second. Much better tractor than my JD 430 and a JD 435.

The 800/801 series tractor is indeed a great all around tractor, especially combinded with a front loader (depending upon your needs).

This Tractor Talk board does seem to be dominated by Farmall and John Deere men. If you go over to the Ford board, there's lots of posts / discussion about the hundred series tractors (i.e., 600 (134 cu.in. utility), 700 (134 cu.in. row crop), 800 (172 cu.in. utility) and 900 (172 cu.in. row crop).

Welcome to the world of old tractors.

Ford 861 with power steering. That would be one of my "dream tractors". I wouldn't trade one of them for 2 John Deeres.

I have one with power steering and I sure love using that tracror, live power, 40+ HP. A treat to use. I have always had Farmalls, but I'm getting older and this is so much easier to get on and rides better, but still love those old red tractors.

I have a friend that I trade work with. When I have occasion to operate his Allis Chalmers "C", it"s nearly all I can do to get on and off. I have a thick 270 pound body, and two rather short, crippled legs due to bad knees. I can still get on and off my 2N with relative ease. User friendliness, I believe, has always been one of Ford and Ferguson/MF"s great plusses.

I've got an 801 with a loader and PS,i'd trade on a 430 or 420 JD.I don't need a loader,just want something to play with.

I love my 960 Ford - same basic machine as yours a little taller is all.

I know what you mean, they seem to be a secret to the world. :)

I've had an 850 for 9 years now and it's been great. An 860 or 861 with live pto would be even better, but I get by. Try the Ford board on this site for more info on your tractor.

Lots of 800s were sold and are still around. They are extremely popular around central Wis. Don't go shopping for one there and expect a cheap price. Used 800s bring around $5000. If you want to see a neat operation, visit the external_link website.
