What shade of silver for the rims?

Tonight I was home on the farm and decided to take the tires off the duals for the 1855 so we can work on getting the other ones mounted. !st one came off, but the second one was a bit more stubborn. The insides were rusted pretty good (no-they weren't full of fluid either).

We're gonna blast the rims and paint them up 1st before we put the other ones on.

My question is, what shade of silver is the best match to what the rims were originally? My brother says to just paint them Clover White, but the paint I would use is so much different than the white that is on the tractor it'd look really funny with the 2 shades actually touching each other.

Donovan, go down to the Agco dealer and pick up a couple of quarts of Agco Argent Silver and paint your rims with that. We have been using it on a lot of things and it's really nice silver metallic paint. I usually mix some TSC Valspar hardner in with it to about 2 oz per quart. It is best if you thin it with xylol instead of naptha. You can also buy quarts of xylol (xylene) at TSC. I mix it up and spray it through my spray gun. Give it a quick light coat. Wait a couple of minutes and give it a little heavier second coat. Now wait a few more minutes depending on how hot it is and give it a nice wet third coat being careful to not have it run. You will be rewarded with some really nice looking metallic silver wheels that were not that expensive to do. I prime the items first with automotive grade primer in cans or in quarts. Gray primer is much easier to cover with the silver. Seems like the Argent Silver is only about $12-$13 a quart. Part number is 79014811. Good luck.

I forgot to say we always paint the inside of a tractor or implement rim with that POR-15 black paint. If you have rusted metal where the tubes ride this stuff will give you a rock hard perfect surface for the tubes to ride on. Just brush that stuff on and it levels itself to a beautiful finish that will last for years on the inside of the rims, even if you run chloride.

Where do you get the POR-15 paint? Rattle can or quart? Got some rims I need to paint. Chris

any body shop paint supply can get it for you or here is a link. be sure to wear disposable gloves when painting it on. if you get it on you, and dont get it off before it dries, its gonna be there a while.

Actually, the spec sheet advises 8:1 for that hardener, or 4 ozs per quart.
IH has the Argent Silver also. modified acyrlic, at about 9 dollars a quart.
I'd recommend a first coat of epoxy primer, them automotive primer surfacer and sanding to fill in those rust pits.

Very true about getting the stuff on your hands. I have some on mine right now. I was painting a trailer yesterday. I get mine from the Por Outlet on ebay. Ordered 4 quarts friday for $144 dollars. Shipping is $9 dollars. I can't afford to drive to town for $9 dollars anymore!

Gordo the can I have of Valspar enamel hardner says empty one can into a gallon of paint. 8 oz can for 128 oz or 16-1. 2 oz per quart. At least that is what the valspar brand is.

Thanks. That's kinda what I was thinking. I was gonna go to the Massey dealer and look at what they have on the shelves and go with whatever I though looked best. All I know is that Aluminum is way too bright...
