cant get a good spark

got a crafstman 14 hp magtronic lawn tractor. replaced a burnt out coil but now cant seem to get a constant spark. removed flywheel and cleaned then replaced it, only fits one way.new plug also. spark very weak only works now and then, engine wont fire.any advice would be appreciated.

I bought one of those coils for a lawn mower & I couldn't get it to fire. It was suppose to be a replacement for the old coil. I bought a used coil off a junker and it fired right up. I still have the new coil. Are magnets used on that flywheel? If there's is I would touch them with a flatblade screwdriver to see if they have good magnetism. Hal

Did you set the gap between flywheel and coil? i loosen up the coil and rotate the flywheel around to where the coil pulls up against the magnet , using a business card to set the gap, tighten the coil down.
How bout the flywheel key, the slightest mark on it will throw off the timing enough where it won't start. You probably knew all this already but maybe not. Hope it helps.

well i finally got the coil to spark , seems i put it on upside down.now it sparks real good but engine still wont fire. i know the carb is not on upside down as a last measure im gonna have to try the quick start.
