Allan's hay

Allan,
Weather guessers yesterday map showed chance of rain your way. Hope your good hay didn't get wet.

We got 3/4 " of much needed rain last Sunday. That was the first rain in June for here in SC. Accumulated about 2 inches in May after adequate but not great rainfall the rest of the year. Maybe we need to develop hybrid cactus.

You must be pushing that swather to break knives and guards. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't see any signs of rocks in those fields.

Oh Man!!!!

The Hay Season From _________!!!

Got 65 acres ready to bale this morning as soon as I can get my computer chores done and get out there. Hopefully, just a "sprinkle" of rain.

Swather turned out to be "operator error". I had changed the pitch on the reel and hadn't re-adjusted the darned stop for the depth control.........was feeding those steel hume tines into the sickle. **EMBARRESSED**!!

Big disappointment came yesterday tho. Just about broke my heart when this happened. Guess I flat ran the wheels off of that jasper.

Now, I'm down to one rake until I can rebuild that twisted=off axle. Sure slows things down! :>(

My sympathies on the break down. We"ve had our share. We"re watching the weather real close. Planning on 2nd cutting Sunday. Rain chance has dropped to 30% from 60%, so I think we"re a go. I"ll have James post pictures next week.

Don't know if you remember it or not, but I had put on a Saginaw hitch just for the express purpose of raking hay this year.

Put it on with the original hitch in place.

That goofy 3-point just won't lower far enough to work until I can "narrow-up" that original U-drawbar. Drat! :>(

Oh well, she got to rake for an hour and a half yesterday using the single rake after my right-throw rake hit the skids. :>)

I just went out there and checked the silly hay. Just on the "edge" of being too darned green yet, so I'm gonna let it lie another day.

Me too. Gonna knock down another 60 acres and gamble that the rains stay away. :>)

That tire wedged between the rake and the frame must be a pretty common occurance. Seen one looked just like that left in the field on the north side of Auburn, IA yesterday.

That or you're coming a long ways east to feed your cattle!

My eyes dont focus well when zooming into pixellation but wouldn't this 3-pt get a lot narrower if you took the stabilizer bars loose? I'm not sure if those are metal straps looped over the bottom arms or not. I got a cuttin' torch!

Oh,

I thought I could "limp" the darned thing back to the yard after that axle twisted off.

Got out in the middle of the road and of course it fell on the ground. I just threw that tire up there to carry it back into the field. :>)

Just hope I can find a good drive axle and locate that lost drive dog. It's still lying out there in the field somewhere. :>(

I had wheel problems myself this year. Darn thing went out on a Sat evening. No one was ansewering the emergancy parts number at the dealer so I had to wait until monday. Its only the second year of use on the baler. New hub, spindle and bearings were $270! Finished my hay monday, gotter all up without a drop of rain. Thats never happened with first crop for me.

Hah, your hitch dilemma reminds me of many years ago. Used to use an H with a 2 row cultivator. I was a kid then, but if I'm remembering right, dad had to remove the whole drawbar to put on the rear section of the cultivator. Not to mention moving out the rear wheels and deal with the front section of cultivator. A big job for a little cultivator. So, just take off that drawbar, maybe you'll get along with just the 3 point. Also remember, one day going down the road with the H and cultivator a hose let go and showered me with oil.

If you look closely at the picture, the hydraulic cylinder is at the very bottom of its stroke. It's not going to go down any further because it was designed for use with the original drawbar.

It looks as though the linkage that moves the arms is adjustable, I would guess he has them set short for now because the hitch is in the way.

That operator can jump up and bite you. BTDT.

Bummer on the broke axle. You are glad now you got an extra rake.

Naw,

I've got the float pins pulled out. That thing will go to the ground if that drawbar wasn't in the way.

If you will look at all tractor 3 points from 706/806 forward(no matter the color) (some others even came out ahead of the 706/806) you will find that they all had narrow fixed hitches from the factory. I have built one hitch from scratch(for an after-market ITCO 3PT. and found a broken M loop to shorten for a TSC hitch. I am now going to build another narrow loop for another TSC. hitch. Once you narrow up that loop you will have the best of both worlds. Opps: forgot to mention that no three is complete until you add the cat. 2 quick hitch. Makes hooking and unhooking much eaiser and keeps those ends from floping around when no inplent is attatched! Armand
