Double question. I read in ehay weekly that you should cut grass higher. Is there a way to cut higher than my mower adjustment? I have a 1219 and the "shoes" set the height, no way to get up to 4 inch stubble. Use the hyd.?
What is the value of Chicken M. vs chemical? Local fellow uses a truck with side discharge to spred chicken manure. What rate should one use?

Rather than try to adjust the height with hydraulics, I'd manufacture a new, higher shoe for each end of the bar. I don't think the bar would stay level by slightly lifting hydraulically. Chicken manure is very high in N, so would be an advantage on grass hay, but wouldn't do as much on alfalfa. Analysis varies, so you'd need a test on that to determine correct application rate.

My New Holland mower has different height shoes available. What is really nice though is that you can adjust the tilt of the header,which adjusts the height, on the fly for varying conditions.
