OT: What is this spider? (pics)

I came home to see the biggest darn spider sitting on the wall that I'd ever seen. Now I see spiders all the time but they are long-legged and skinny like a daddy long-legs. But this one was big, fat and ugly. When it got the attention of my cat she knocked it down and it ran the first time, the second time I think it attacked because she ran away from it.

What is it?

Sorry if the pictures are huge, I did not resize them.

Biggest spider I've ever seen; I've got a 19 inch screen and I had to scroll across 3-screen widths to see it all.

It's a Wolf Spider. My daughter caught one and kept it as a pet all winter. We fed it crickets from the pet store. Carefull, they bite.

It looks like a wolf to me too. Yours seems kind of small still. I used to see them early in the morning up near the eaves on my fathers place when I was young. The main body would often be as big as a golf ball. And ya they can bite, not dangerous, just annoying. Never came close to the near tennis ball sized black one that was under the front step and she had thousands of kids with her. Thank goodness for bug spray and dad being nearby. Scared the hell out of my mom, trying to keep us three away from it waiting for dad. The main body of the thing was just about as wide as his foot when he stepped on it. He said its the biggest one he'd seen, he was in his thirties then and had been around. This was over thirty-five years ago and haven't seen anything like it since. I think as the people moved in around us it kind of wiped out the larger spiders. Haven't seen large wolfs around his place since the mid-eighties.

You want to be careful on the brown Recuse spider
here's a pic after after day one and day 10. Don't know who the victim was. Hal

Some one has a link to the recluse spider you can see a fiddle on its head and back in the close up pic. if you see that kill it or leave it alone they are very aggressive and will attack when threatened!!

Looks like a wolf spider. I had tons of them in my basement shop. They like to come out at night and hide during daylight hours.

I step on them because they freak me out, but I hear they are mostly harmless.

I know what I call it, UGLY!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate spiders, I know they do a lot of good, but I still hate spiders,,,
